My sincere condolences to the Fitzpatrick Family.
I was writing a letter tonight, the 2nd December to Paddy Fitzpatrick and only just now, sadly read about his death. May God rest his soul.
In 2008 Paddy sang Sweet Renvyle by the Sea, in Gaelic to a friend & myself at the ruins of the old school. I will never forget it. My Conneely family came from The Renvyle Peninsula in 1848 and Paddy knew the story which matched that which I already knew. Perhaps we are related.

My deepest sympathy to all the Fitzpatrick family on the passing of Paddy May he rest in peace
I wish to offer my sincere sympathy to all the Fitzpatrick Family on the death of Paddy RIP
I did not know him personally but I can recall when I first saw him and his brother Johnny .
I grew up in Caherlistrane and the big Event in our Summer Holidays was the Annual 7 A-Side Football Tournament .I think it was c 1964 on a Sunday ,scheduled start c 2pm so headed off on my Bike at about 12 in case I would miss any of the Action .
Would have got to the Pitch in 10 minutes .
On arrival I was told by the Bigger Lads that the only Team that had arrived at that early stage were Renvyle and “The Fitzpatrick’s are with them “
So Paddy was a big hit in Caherlistrane in 1964 and he never lost it .
Rest in Peace .

Sincerest sympathy on the passing of Paddy Fitz, Fear an Hata. I have never felt more sad at the passing of any great Irishman than that of our great friend Paddy Fitz. He was Cú Chulainn 2nd, a legendary character in all of the west of Ireland, his epic stories of all the competitors he nearly killed or half killed on the football pitch or the boxing ring, his great love of all things Irish, traditional music, sean nós singing, history and folklore. He had a great knowledge of nature and the landscape, and of course a love of all the great Irish people he encountered throughout his long life. Fear an Hata will never be forgotten in the west of Ireland. That he be buried in that little boat speaks volumes about Paddy. Rip Paddy.

Hi. I am so sorry to hear of Fear an Hata's death. My sincere condolences. I remember Barbara and I being welcomed by hisself and mother Molly into their Caislín home for music and chat. From here I borrowed Paddy's father's fife (key of F). The amount of tobacco resididue I cleaned out of it was huge. I played it for a year and was honoured to return it to one of Paddy's grandchildren. Paddy challenged me with his folk and folklore of landscape. For all of 1990 we criss-crossed Connemara hill and dale, his folk knowledge showing how technical and local cam complement. A legend. I'll miss him. I am glad to keep in touch if you wish. Beir bua agus cómhbhrón.
I can not honestly claim that I knew him but I knew of him. The next best thing as it was all good.

I didn't know Paddy, clearly though, he was a legend. I was a patient in the same admittance ward as him, in Galway hospital some weeks ago. His determination and love of his native place was evident, as regaled in a lovely tale of scenic Connemara to a smiling nurse who listened in full, with respect. May he rest in peace.
