I got to know Paddy Joe many years ago when as a young lad I along with my brother Dec thinned turnips for Paddy Joe on his farm. For anyone who doesn’t know what ‘thinning’ is just ask anyone over 60! It was a good place to work and we were well looked after by Paddy Joe and his mother, Mary.
I got to know Paddy Joe as a very intelligent man who could converse on virtually any topic and it was always nice to be in his company.
He is of course remembered as a legendary goalkeeper in the great Sean Phobal team in the ‘60’s. His kickouts were extremely long and are getting longer with the passing of time!
He was always a passionate Sean Phobal man and even when unable to attend matches he ensured he was kept up to speed with the fortunes of The Shocks.
RIP Paddy Joe
