On behalf of my father, we would like to offer our condolences to Maura and all the family on the death of Tommy. Dad remembers Tommy with great affection, especially the kindness he showed him as a young boy, sharing his comics with him, while he waited for his Dad to finish his pint. Being back in Donard, a visit to Paddy and Toomeys was a fixture for us all. Always full of welcome, warmth and memories. May Tommy rest in peace.

The club are deeply saddened by the passing of a great club man, Paddy Toomey. A club president who was central to the local community and the Donard/Glen GAA story.

Paddy played a huge number of roles for the club over the years. As a player, he was a proud member of the 1972 team that ended a championship drought and was involved in so many of our successful teams in the years that followed.

Like his family that followed, Paddy showed toughness and heart on the field and expected the same from all Donard/Glen players. His team talks were renowned, as was his ability to round up players. Whatever the grade, Paddy rarely failed to field a team. He started and extended many a player’s career with one question… “are you fit son?”, and many of us owe cups, medals and our club pride to Paddy driving us on.

His brilliant commentaries on Maura’s match day videos are a priceless gift to the club. As were his Wicklow People club notes that left readers in no doubt that our lads or ladies put in a great effort, regardless of result. Whether it was GAA, Camogie, LGFA, handball, adult or juvenile, few have flown the club flag better, or encouraged and driven on players in Donard as much as Paddy did.

Any club or village in Ireland would have loved to have had him as one of their own. We were lucky that Donard was Paddy’s home and Donard/Glen his club. He will be sorely missed.

The thoughts of the entire club are with his family. May Paddy rest in peace. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

So sorry for your loss Jacko, Colm, Kevin, Liam, Rory, Suzanne & Roisín, as Paddy was your Dad more than just a huge part of Donard. We will all miss him in the community, I have great memories of watching the games back in the pub and cracking up at the commentary from Paddy. He never got me to play camogie, but it wasn't for want of trying! Love to Maura, who cared for Paddy with such grace. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
