Padraig was very fair to students and he treated everyone the same. I know that he was very active in the community in recent years. He was always pleasant and friendly to meet around. RIP Padraig.

I worked under Pádraig from 1974-2001. From the start I felt I was working with a friendly boss, that infused his staff to be likewise and also his pupils. Laughter rang tough the school. He was a great encouragement to me as a young employee setting up Career Guidance in the school and bought into all ideas.
In this area I got to know him well. He was passionate about his pupils having the best combination of choices and each year the subject choice was reassessed for each unique band of students. He never had streaming and when the numbers taking higher level rose, it was the pupils choose which level for each subject. He created the great technical group of Engineering, Construction, Technical Graphics and Physics.
He never feared what might go wrong and encouraged both the musicals and continuing at national Volleyball after early thrashings. Both proved him right. In 1993 he abolished the sex typing of subjects and allowed all to taste every subject in first year. 5 years later the school broke all their academic records. Others noted he was inventive in PLC as well. Finally, as his school had achieved As in all subjects, he, as Tom Hyland noted, introduced the Special Needs Class, an education for us all. Fr. Frankie quoted "he was kind, too kind" but then questioned how can you be?

As Principal of DVS Padraig was a superb motivator and always accomodating to individual needs - going beyond the call of duty to assist students with particular requirements. I will always remember him travelling down from Drumshanbo, in his VW Beetle, to give me my LC results (1975), along the side of the road! Changed times! RIP

I remember that he had to come to the top of the lane at the basketball courts to call us almost every morning after the bell had gone but I don't remember him ever once being cross with us about it.
