Pamela Benson

I am shocked and sad to hear of Pam's tragic death. I have met her many years ago during her time in Southampton - she was one of the kindest person I have met in my life. My deeply felt Condolences to her family and friends.

I am shocked and saddened to learn of Pam's tragic death. A wonderful colleague for many years in Beaumont Hospital .She was an amazing accomplished lady.

I was very saddened to learn about the passing of Pam in addition to the tragic circumstances. I met Pam the summer before last with the Innisfree Wheelers cycling club in Sligo when I was home. She couldn’t have been nicer integrating me into the group, as was everyone in the club. It was obvious to see how much she loved cycling and the club and how much they loved and appreciated her. She was certainly an inspiration. My condolences to all her family, friends and fellow cyclists at the Innisfree Wheelers.

I am very sad to hear about Pam . I had the pleasure of working alongside Pam in Beaumont Hospital. She was a brilliant nurse , knowledgeable and considerate May she Rest in peace. I will keep her in my thoughts .

I was truly saddened to hear of Pam’s sudden passing. Such a lovely lady. She had that gift of making you feel special even though our paths only crossed a few times during her athletic career. Rest in peace Pam.

So sorry to hear of Pam's untimely death. She was always such a lovely positive person to work with in the operating theatre. I recall that Stephen Hawking visited her in Dublin about 2004 as she was one of his personal nursing team for many years. She was always good humoured with such a zest for life. Im sorry I can't get to her funeral tomorrow but will be thinking of her, her family and friends.

I am so sorry to hear of the untimely death of the wonderful Pam. My sincere condolences to her sisters, brother, niece and nephews, and all her extended family. I got to know her through Samaritans where we served together for 10 years. She was a wonderful volunteer, and was gracious with her time, and gave herself freely to our organisation. Many a good chocolate biscuit cake we shared together, of course made by Pam. A few months ago I travelled to Ballymote on two Saturdays where we had coffee together from the coffee truck and shared stories. Her love of life, her beloved dog, and cycling was Pam to the core. You will be missed my friend, I for one will never forget your smile and your "I can" attitude to life. May your gentle, generous soul rest in eternal peace.

We've lost one of our heroes. That's what Pam was to us in "The Wheelers" - we admired her so much, we loved her indomitable spirit and zest for life. We aspired to be like her. When news of her accident first broke, we dared to hope that, just maybe, Pam's great determination and positivity might get her through. Alas it wasn't to be, and unlike in the movies, this time the hero didn't come storming back.
Many of us will cherish the memories of particular spins or sportives we did in the company of this wonderful lady, or the chats we had on the coffee stops. She enriched the Innisfree Wheelers massively, and will be long remembered. Perhaps we'll establish an annual biscuit-cake competition in her memory!

Dear Miriam and Judy, Sincere sympathy to you and the family on Pamela's death. I used to enjoy coming to your family home from boarding school with Pamela for Sunday lunches and horse-riding. She went on to be an outstanding nurse in Neurosurgery in the UK and in Beaumont. It's lovely to hear how she has greatly enriched, and been enriched by, people's lives in Sligo.

I did not know Pamela, I was one of the motorist who passed the roundabout that terrible morning. I said a prayer as we passed hoping whoever was hurt would be ok. From reading the condolences she was a wonderful woman, someone we could all aspire to be. My sincere sympathy to her family.

Pam was such an inspiration to all of us, and was a wonderful example of kindness, generosity and goodwill.
