I would like to share with you a piece of Pat's life that is not widely known.
A few years ago Pat volunteered to assist at the World Special Olympics which were held in Athens during the month of June.
This involved a considerable amount of fundraising and personal financial commitment on Pat's behalf.
At the games Pat was assigned to help with the golf competitions and Ireland was competing in this.
Pat had to leave his accomodation at 4.30am each morning to be at the golfing venue where the golf competitions were held early due to the extreme heat. He did this for the duration of the games. I never heard him complain.
Pat struck up a great friendship with the competitors,especially the Irish ones, sharing with them his vast knowledge of golfing skills.
Ireland won a Gold in the golf. Pat was ever so proud.
Thats the calibre of the man I knew.

We sat together in secondary school and the devilment was great, but when it came to football, football and athletics, is where Pat came into his own. A generational talent that I was blessed to have witnessed and played with. I'm really sorry I could not be there yesterday.
