I recall dealing with Pat in relation to UCG Rugby scores in the early 1990’s. He was an encyclopedia of information on Galway Rugby, and sport in general. He was “Google search” before the term was heard of, and I certainly learnt a lot from him. He was always a very hospitable host.
Pat had to cope with the pressure of ringing in scores, or match reports in time for newspaper deadlines, in an era before mobile phones and internet.
His illnesses curtailed him in recent years. Sympathy to Barbara and wider family.
Ar Deis De go rabh a anam.

I want to be associated with all the lovely condolence messages here, for a lovely man. Pat's presence adorned many's the playing field all around Connaught as far as Athlone. His pleasantness, courtesy, kindness, chat and conviviality and willingness to help anyone else will be never forgotten. He's at the playing fields in Heaven. I think the oval ball game was his first love; come September or October next and an Irish XV make it to a final, let us all shout once for Ireland and then one more shout out for Pat's sake to the Irish fifteen. To Barbara, my sincere sympathy on losing a great man.
