I was extremely sorry to hear of Pat’s Good Bye as we were good friends since boyhood. Our family Ray, myself,Colm,Muire ,Enda and Pat’s siblings Jackie, Eleanor, and Margaret were all born in Derrymullen, Ballinasloe.
Incidentally Muire( my sister) Is a life long friend of Margaret( Pat’s sister) since their school days in Ballinasloe. Their Dad( P.J) was a renowned footballer and team member of the the All Ireland winning Galway team v Dublin in 1934.
My solid friendship continued with Pat when he married wonderful Maureen and of course they are the
Parents of Padraig, Eilisa,Cliona, Onagh, Blátnaid, Jon and Billy
Pat and Maureen we’re always very supportive of myself during my eight years playing for Connacht.
Colm RIP ( Muire’s and my brother) was also a good friend of Pat’s. It was tough dealing with Colm’s Funeral as it occurred in the same period as Pat’s Funeral.
It was pleasing that Muire was able to attend Pat’s funeral mass.

To all the McDonald Clann, my sincere condolence. I have known Pat for a very long time; as a young lad, I watched him play football for Derrymullen
and occasionally for Ballinasloe and what a footballer he was. During the Cong /Galway sailing race in 1981, in very rough conditions, he stood off as I righted my Laser; Pat gave me the confidence to continue, and we often had a good laugh over a pint talking about that situation. Incidentally, I finished in second place on the day. He was one of the great characters of Ballinasloe and will be missed by all who knew him. Rest in Peace Pa.t

To Padraic, Eilisha, Cliona, John, Bill, Blatnaid and Oonagh may I offer my sincere condolence on Pats death. Known him for many years and sorry I'm unable to attend. Even though he spent most of his life in Galway I suspect that he was happiest when he was at his home in Derrymullen. I visited him on his farm there on a couple of occasions and it struck me how happy he seemed as he tended his livestock. Never one to shirk hard work he will be greatly missed. Rest peacefully!
