Pat was an enthusiastic member of the Scottish/Irish Rugby Club, who met for many years, alternatively in Dublin and Edinburgh, to celebrate the friendship and camaraderie that sporting events can create.
We don't know how much of the rugby he understood, but he made up for his lack of knowledge in the more important socialising, before and after the match.
Pat was the 'life and soul' of the party, regaling us with gentle tales of his time in the Garda and the shop in Athlone, usually with a glass of Guiness in his hand.
He also introduced us to a new drink-creme de menthe-which he insisted was the national. drink of Ireland!
Pat, thanks for your friendship,and the fun and laughter we shared.
We remember a lovely man.
