Pat was a wonderful man who was loved by everyone who knew him. His wide connection of friends across GAA, Coursing, Horse Racing and the shop ensured that he was never short of a friend but it was his extensive knowledge in all fields that ensured you were a lot wiser after one of those chats with him in the shop. We loved calling to see him. Pat has left us with a great legacy through his wonderful family. Níl sé imithe uainn ach imithe romhainn. May Pat Rest in Peace. He will never be forgotten and was recognized as one of the all time greats in An Gleann and Emmets.

We are at such a sense of loss with the recent passing of Pat. Mary and the extended Whelan and Harty family our heartfelt condolence. A visit home to Listowel felt incomplete without a call down to Whelan's. No bother to the regular customer pick up an 8 stone bag of pellets or whatever and left with an acknowledged non or wave from Pat. Such was the unspoken North Kerry language beknown only to both.Rest Peacefully Pat.

Pat was a stalwart of William Street, and being truly home in Listowel meant stopping into Whelans for a chat or even just a wave from Pat sitting by the shop window. He will be missed on our street, but many good memories he left us all with. Thoughts and prayers to all the Whelans from the Cantys in Atlanta, Georgia.
