I've just this morning become aware of Pat's sudden passing. It came as a terrible shock. Pat was one of the nicest, easiest to engage with, and friendliest people in the Department, and it will be hard to think of the place, and particularly social events, without him. In particular, his labyrinthine knowledge of books and films, subjects which he so enjoyed discussing, will be fondly remembered. My deepest condolences to his family and friends on his untimely loss - he had much more life to live.
— Pat McColgan (Dept. of Finance)

Deepest condolences and sympathy to Pat’s family at this terrible time. I joined the Dept at the same time as Pat and he worked with me since 2012. At all times he was good humoured and friendly to all amongst his immediate colleagues, but also the wider Department and the many international visitors that visited us over the years who Pat helped manage for me. During all of the time we worked together I never heard he speak badly of anyone and he always volunteered to help others and was first to assist new members of staff. Pat will be very much missed by all of us, but we will remember him fondly.

I am so shocked and saddened by Pat's passing. He was so good to me when I started in the department, making sure I knew about any social events that were coming up which started our friendship. He spoke so kindly of his family which obviously meant the world to him. It would always be great to meet him in the corridor for a chat when clocking in or talk on the phone about a new system that had been put in place that he had a handle on before me!
May your gentle soul rest in peace Pat.
