Sincere condolences to the Murphy family on the very sad passing of Mr Pat Murphy.
I was a past student of Deerpark CBS, graduate of 2004.
At the time, I missed my French oral examination for my leaving certificate and was feeling very deflated. One day Mr Murphy came to my house and told me to go and put on my school uniform as he was able to find an examiner who was willing to assess me so that I could complete the oral examination, he waited for me and then drove me to the school as the examiner was waiting there for me. I am so grateful to Mr Murphy as this gave me the confidence to continue to go on and complete my leaving certificate and become a teacher. May he rest in peace and rise in the glory. Ar dheis de go raibh a hanam dilis.

Pat was one of those who led a major transition in Ireland as lay teachers moved for the first time into Senior Management in our schools. Pat held the balance between the old and the new with dignity. He served his family and his school community well. May he rest in peace. So sorry that we are away this week.

It will be easy to recall the goodness of Patrick Murphy, who is Heaven-bound today (Saturday).
He leaves behind a heartbroken family and I am sure many friends who are full of sadness.
I remember times standing on Woburn Drive talking about Cork’s varying fortunes in gaelic football with Patrick.
And I recall something of a wonderful speech he made at a party to celebrate one of my father-in-law’s birthdays. All this before illness dealt Patrick its cruel hand.
Patrick and Maura, indeed the entire family have been wonderful neighbours of the Walsh family next door. Sure Deirdre is like another sister to Aideen.
And I know Patrick’s honesty, his caring nature, his integrity and wit will be recalled fondly time and time again around the kitchen table in that household. May he rest in peace.
