Jack came into my life when I was 8 & what a journey. An introduction to reading music & playing an instrument sprinkled with competing at regional & Feis Ceoil competitions. Along with music, you arranged games of football against members of other bands, introduced people to photography & developing. A love you had that was equal to music was your passion for trains & steam engines. Yes, you were the founding member of Gormanstown College Summer School of Music, which was held in the first week of August but in the second week, in the late '60's the 'Band Summer Camp' came to be. The first years were in Collinstown & Lough Lene. After that, it was Strandhill in Sligo but then we reached paradise in Lettermullan, Co. Galway. With Jack & Bro Francis in charge, what could go wrong! In 1979 our paths took a new turn in the setting up of the Irish National Foresters Brass Band. The founding members of this Band was my deceased mother, May Lynch, who on speaking with the then secretary of the INF, Frank Lynch & Frank's brother Bertie (deceased), a decision was taken & Jack was invited to become the Musical Director. Our roles were reversed when I was the Conductor & you were sitting in the Bass section of the Kells Silver Band. Thank you for years of tuition on conducting, harmony & the skills needed to become a Musical Director. It is a privilege that your last notes were with me conducting. Thank you for the memories & safe journey home Jack. May you Rest In Peace.
Deepest sympathies to his family on the passing of Jack We remember him coming in to chat to Alfie and Liam Walsh in Watergate Street over the years. As many have said, he always kept in touch. May he Rest in Peace.
