My sincerest condolences on the passing of your Dad. We haven't been in-touch in quite a while and this news came as a shock to me. Although far away, you guys are in my thoughts and prayers. As you know, I worked with Paddy at MCC, first as a student in 1992, and then on 3 more occasions until 2003.
He was a very special man and taught me and the others who passed through his team, a great deal.
We learned not just about engineering, but about life, how to treat people with respect, the wider responsibilities of a local authority and the importance of continual learning - oh, and that Kerry is the best place on earth!
It’s only been as I travelled on through life that I realised how many of Paddy’s pearls of wisdom have stuck with me and guided me and hopefully made me a better person and someone he would have been proud to say he influenced and mentored. I am so pleased that I managed to get back in contact earlier this year and had the opportunity to thank him for all he did for me in the years I’ve known him.
He always had time and wise words for everyone in MCC and these words were always intertwined with just the right amount of kindness and humour, as appropriate to the situation.
Finally, he was a good friend who welcomed me in to his home on many occasions. Even after I left the Council he was always pleased to hear from me and keen to know what I was up to, and most importantly, what I was driving.
Sadly my hope to visit him next year won’t be realised but I am happy and thankful to have known him and I will remember him always with great fondness. He enriched my life enormously.
May he rest in peace now with your wonderful mother Bridget.
