I will forever be grateful to Pat for his friendship, support and advice since I started in CIT in 2001. While our time in CIT overlapped by just three years, he frequently visited us after he retired and was always so interested in our work. He was student-focused to his core, but equally, he greatly valued all staff. Any time we spoke, he always mentioned their many talents, with tremendous pride.
I was deeply honoured to participate in the music for Pat's retirement event in 2004 and will always remember it as a night of joy and celebration, not only of Pat's achievements, but moreover of the institution as a whole, one which he led with vision, purpose, and humanity.
May Pat rest in peace, reunited with his beloved Sheila. My condolences to all his family and friends.

Pat an absolute gentleman.
In my capacity as Students' Union President 25+ years ago there was never a need to book an appointment. Sneak past Ann, quick knock on Pat's door and always welcomed in. Looking back... how he had the patience to listen to me waffle on about the price of a cup of tea going up 5 cent in the canteen and this would lead to an all out strike was beyond me. Just nodded his head and said he would look at it and just like that the uprising was over.
Another time I received a call on a Sun evening on an old Nokia. Pat on the phone. Could he meet me at F block. A bad storm had damaged the roof. I arrived and he said everything humanly possible would be done to get that roof fixed for the students to avoid disruption. I said Pat take your time I reckon the students would be delighted with the disruption, but no, the roof was fixed that week much to the dismay of my constituents :)
At that meeting we stood behind F block and he said.. the Master Plan was to have a stadium and pitches as we looked over the rugged fields. Pat could see the vision. Recently my own kids have played on these pitches and I always smile passing F block as we head into one of the finest college facilities in Ireland. Pats vision became Pats reality.
Besides Sheila and Bawneen I have never met any of Pats children or family but I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of myself and the students' of the old RTC/CIT to wish our deepest sympathies to the Kelleher Family.

He was a giant of a man. His outstanding leadership of RTC Cork/CIT through the challenging 90's and into the early years of this Century is well known.
Less so, perhaps, was his pivotal role in the establishment and development of the Higher Education Sector at national level.
Pat always sought to calm storms and find consensus.
A man of of enormous humanity and integrity, the fruits of his labour will benefit generations of students.
He was an advisor and mentor to many and I was lucky to count myself among those.
