With death so final we must When words and music are no comfort to us now, nor can give expression to grief, we can with the poet, WH Auden say, “The stars are not wanted now. Put out every one of them. Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun, pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood.”
Padraig’s short life has left a deep impression on us all, due to his endearing, affable disposition. Both young and old enjoyed his company. As a good and reliable worker, we all called on his service.
The Community and local Church were enriched by his wonderful commitment. In his green Ford Focus car he covered rich miles of homliness, tradition and culture from the heart of Drumboylan and lurga. Here he was at his happiest best expressed in a line by the Poet Patrick Kavanagh; “A road, a mile of Kingdom, I am the king of all…………….
Believe in days like these the following sentiment, expressed by Seamus Heaney. “Never closer the whole rest of our lives”

To all the Moffat family especially Martina and Cheryl-our heartfelt prayers and thoughts are with you at this very difficult time.
It is hard to comprehend that you are no longer with us Pat. I said 'goodbye' only a fortnight ago, never thinking it would be my final farewell. I feel such overwhelming sorrow for Martina, Cheryl and the rest of the family - you were so very much loved and adored. You welcomed me into your beautiful, happy and loving home for which I shall forever be grateful. xxxx
I did not know you Patrick, but like you, I have earned my livelihood from the inland waterways. You have given your life for your job, and no greater thing can a man ever do than that. I know the risks we take for granted on a daily basis. I feel a spirit of kinship with others in similiar work situations. I send my sincere condolences to your bereaved family and I shall remember you and your surviving family in prayer.
Sorry for misprint in my condolence message.

To me he was always Padraig Moffatt affable and friendly since the 1980s when I first met him at his home in Drumboylan. Over the years a deep friendship and bond with him and his family developed that it has been a constant blessing in my life. This has been a gift seldom recognized or appreciated until it comes to days like these when I have lost a true friend.I grieve his untimely passing with a heavy heart .I hold out my hand to Margaret ,Colette, Hugh , Martina,Cheryl with some realization of the pain of sadness that is now theirs. From Drumboylan to Kilclare Patrick played a great role consistent ,reliable and an asset to Rural Tourism. He endeared himself to visitors ,strangers and neighbors. These great qualities led to an active community life that was greatly admired. So too was his faith which went hand in hand like the green ford focus. His life has left a deep impression on many of us.what are we to do without him.May he rest in peace.
Deepest sympathy to Martina,Margaret,Colette,Hugh,Liam,Jeremiah,Michelle,John&Celia,Cheryl&Michael,Niamh,Sinead,Paul,Lorraine,Amy,David, Juliette & extended family on the untimely death of a great husband, son, brother, uncle, friend and neighbour.
May God support you all at this shocking time of loss and grief.
I know Patrick for 40 years and no words could ever express my sadness at his passing.
