Patrick Moran

My sincere condolences to all who cared for and miss Patrick. In particular I send this to Peter, Mary, Patricia and Fionnuala MacManamon. Their mother, Maudie, nee Mullen, and my father , Paddy, were brother and sister of Florrie. Thank you for letting us know Fionnuala it meant a lot. From all your cousins in England.

My parents, Paddy and Gladys Mullen, left Ireland for England in 1955 (I was 5) so growing up my siblings and I had little contact with our cousins. As kids Dad took some of us (there were 7) over to visit our Grandmother, Uncles and Aunts and I recall staying over night with Aunt Florrie, Dad's sister, one time. I met Patrick properly only once when he came in 1996 to Dad's funeral. Mum was delighted. Patrick struck me as quite shy so it was especially decent and kind of him. Since 1996 we exchanged Christmas cards. I have got to know more about him from the condolences. I love that while well respected as a Judge, he was not a judgemental person. I think of him as a modest man who would be very moved reading this book. God Bless Patrick your cousin Pat X

So sorry to hear of Judge Moran's passing. He was old school, a proper gentleman, unfailingly polite and courteous. Reporting from his court for almost 20 years, it always struck me that he was a man of great decency and humanity and he had a great empathy for the victims of crime, inquiring how they were dealing with their trauma long before Victim Impact Statements became the norm. Sincerest sympathies to you all on your sad loss.

I was indeed sad to hear of The passing of former Judge Patrick Moran only son of Josie and Florrie Moran Mulranny Co Mayo. I did not know Patrick personally but did meet him on a number of occasions in the circuit court during my working life when I appeared as a
professional witness in some court cases where he appeared as the Barrister. He was indeed a lovely man to chat.
I remember fondly Patrick as a young man of secondary school and College where he could always be seen during holiday time in front of the family shop in Mulranny " stuck into his books".During my youth I travelled to the village of Currane in Achill during holidays to my grand mother in the late fifties and early sixties and got off the Westport bus outside Josie Moran's pub and Grocery. Josie always got Florrie and Patrick to leave me back to Currane and Florrie gave Patrick his driving lessons during the Trip in their Austin Cambridge car. Josie Moran and Florrie were wonderfull community people in Mulranny and were very obliging to the local and surrounding villagers that shopped there.
RiP Patrick Moran. Remembering those wonderfull people Josie and Florrie Moran at this sad time also.

So sorry to hear of the sudden passing of Patrick. He was my cousin and we met a few times, the last time being at my father’s funeral when Patrick came over to England to attend. Although we did not see each other very much, he always kept in touch with Christmas cards and promised to try to come and see us in West Wales. Sadly that won’t happen now. Judge Moran was always an example as a judge in the face of very substantial pressures of work and got through it correctly, courteously, efficiently and without dramatics.

I am so sad to hear of Patrick's death. We were good friends in Clongowes and after. Last time we spoke was after a mutual friend died last year. Very happy memories. Rest in Peace.

Sincerest condolences to the Moran and Harty families and friends and colleagues.
It was always a pleasure to meet Patrick whenever he returned to visit Mulranny. One such visit is legend when our young family and some friends travelled en mass to Clare Island with Patrick in my Achill yawl on a truly beautiful Summer’s day. We marvelled how we had someone on board who could deal with whatever life might throw at us including births deaths and marriages as well as mechanical breakdowns. As well as myself the local GP we had the local mechanic, undertaker,priest, (Fr Mattie McNeely RIP) and most distinguished Judge Moran on -board! We had a great day including a few very enjoyable drinks in McCabes at the harbour, the memory of which has still stayed strong with us into the future. Patrick was an exceptionally kind man. That humanity combined with his sensitivity and his common touch and considerable intellect and his calling marked him out as an exceptional person who has contributed magnificently to all who were fortunate enough to cross his path.
Rest in peace Patrick. You will be missed by all.
