He will be dearly missed. “Sadly, last week, our family tree suffered a great loss. Our beloved and wonderful Dalkey Pat O'Brien passed away unexpectedly but peacefully, surrounded by his wife Noreen and family. He was the most senior of us (descendants of Patrick & Bridget) at aged 92yrs - whilst this is no excuse to have left us - it is an important position and one he had himself commented upon a few times to us. His fondness for his extended family was demonstrated by his commitment to, support of, and attendance at our Gatherings of 2012, 2016, 2020, 2023. It was a privilege to hear his vast and precious recollections about the family origins in Monomolin, and to hear the enthusiasm in his voice - and his energy for staying in touch with us all. A loss indeed and one which was respectfully and lovingly marked by his family and friends at his funeral - it was a celebration of his life as much as a goodbye. Dear Noreen, Clodagh, Simon, Peter, Saoirse and the wider O’Brien family. My deepest condolences on the passing of Pat. I have very fond memories of him from childhood growing up on Mapas Road. He was a kind, gentle and generous man with a great sense of humour. Unfortunately work prevents me from attending Pat’s funeral.
