A true gentleman.Paddy was both likeable and kindhearted. He will be sorely missed.
So sad to hear of Paddy's untimely passing. Many happy memories from when we were young and occasional catch-ups in more recent years. Knowing the kind and gentle man you were it is no surprise to read the warm condolences from the many lives you touched. Rest in peace Paddy.
Sincere sympathies to all the extended family.
I still find it difficult to come to terms with  Patrick not knocking on our door for a hit in St. Mary’s LTC at any random time. In Dublin, where we knew him, Patrick touched the lives of so many people.  We were lucky to know about the tennis, the varied conversation, the occasional long walk and the education. Patrick, ever the gentleman, was so discreet that many of us did not know of the existence of so many others. There were so many aspects to Patrick’s life. He was an amazing teacher, especially for those most in need of help. The conversation was always rich and varied, often based on his reading at the time, never the usual boring old news. His interest in travel over the last few years really engaged him. Patrick was a wonderful tennis player and a great partner, there are a few shots that he made his own and they may never be replicated. Patrick could call to see you at any time and it was always a pleasure to see him, he never missed a Christmas eve.In life Patrick could not have been kinder to everyone he met. If ever anyone left the world in a better place than where he found it, he did. Rest in peace Patrick, we will miss you.
Sincere condolences to Pat and all of Paddy’s extended family
family. Paddy and I were classmates in school. He was a lovely caring gentle person. May he rest in peace.
We were so upset to hear of Patrick's passing , he was an absolute gentleman in every way and a brilliant Maths teacher. He made learning fun and interesting and he will be sadly missed.
Thank you Paddy for all the help over the years.
So Saddened to hear of the sudden death of Patrick, a true gentleman and a gifted teacher and raconteur. We are so grateful and blessed to have met him, may his gentle soul rest in peace, Róisín, Ray, Patrick & Niall
Thank you Paddy for giving Lainey a passion for maths. May your gentle soul rest in peace.
Patrick’s sudden passing has left so many gaps in his family, friends and students lives. Patrick’s interest in books, history, science and of course his mathematical knowledge was exceptional, something he shared with us all. He played tennis with the same honourable combativeness like he lived his life. His thoughtful gifts of books and puzzles, his discussions on sport, on cycling trips or long walks and countryside travels, his welcome visits to our home for a chat and a bite to eat will all be greatly missed.
Aistear go maith ár gcara.
We were so sorry to hear of Paddy's passing from his cousin Pat Hurley. He was a very nice man and a brilliant maths teacher. We can only imagine how much he will be missed by his family, friends, colleagues and students. May he rest in peace.
Dear Mary and Paddy - so sorry to hear of the passing of Paddy. Remember taking turns on the square swing in the back garden - with lemonade and ice cream on hot summer days. Then making a snow man on bitter winter day. Ah! May he rest in peace.
It is very sad to hear of Paddy’s death. He was a lovely and talented person, much appreciated by his students. Happy and funny memories of Paddy. My condolences go to his family.
Rest In Peace Paddy, a wonderful maths teacher & an absolute gentleman to everybody.
Condolences to Paddy's family and friends. Paddy was my maths teacher in 6th year and his passion for maths made me really enjoy it and love the subject. I was sad to hear of his untimely passing. May he rest in peace
Sadly Covid prevented us visiting you to see your new bookcases and the special section that you had made for Tim Robinson. However, I will never forget the delight you took in his books. You and he shared many attributes: mathematicians, a great capacity for detail, a deep love and understanding of nature, humility, inconspicuous brilliance and a huge legacy from your rich lives.

Pat is a great loss to his Students and Friends.

I was very lucky to have paddy as my maths teacher. He was a wonderful teacher and always so patient, my thoughts are with his family. Rest In Peace
Paddy was a quiet gentle person who touched the lives of many. He only saw the good in everyone and everything. He will be greatly missed. May he Rest In Peace.
So very sad to hear of the passing of Patrick. My late husband and myself knew Patrick from St Mary’s Tennis club. He was a super tennis player. He could get balls from anywhere on the court. I was lucky to have Patrick many times as my mixed doubles partner playing league for the club. We also entered together numerous open tennis tournaments during summers. I have lovely memories of balmy summer evening playing tennis with Patrick. He was also a super maths teacher. He gave grids to both of my girls. They called him the ‘magic number man’. My younger daughter shared a birthday with Patrick so we often celebrated together. He was the most gentle of people. Don’ think I ever heard him say a bad word about anyone. Rest In Peace Patrick. Remembered always fondly by the Kinahans, Sheila, Zoe and Caroline
Patrick was the definition of a gentleman and a kind soul. Patrick taught me maths for several years and also taught my brother and later my cousins. This relationship later blossomed into a family friendship for years. Patrick graced our home with a warm presence and spent many evenings with us watching tennis, football and BBC adaptations of Dickens novels, something he adored dearly and a passion that he passed onto myself, inspiring me to read some of his works. I often remember Patrick asking me for score updates during lessons to which we often stopped and enjoyed watching the remainder of the match before resuming our lesson. He was a warm presence in our home and one we loved to welcome. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. His boundless knowledge, kindness and empathy are a few of the many traits I greatly admired him for. He had a big impact on my life and will always remember him with a great happiness. RIP
So sad to hear of Patrick's suddden passing. His gentle presence will be misssed by all his friends at St Mary's tennis club. As well as his ability on the tennis court, he gave tremendous help and support to countless youngsters in their preparation for junior and leaving cert maths. So hard to believe you've left us.
Paddy was one of the kindest and most understanding maths teachers I ever had. Always there to help you when he could. He will be missed by his students and all who knew him. Rip Paddy

I am so sorry to hear of Patrick's recent passing. He was a fantastic teacher and I will always be grateful to him. A dedicated teacher, loyal friend and colleague and a gentle soul who brought kindness to everything and everyone. So typical of you, Paddy, to slip away in an unassuming manner to your eternal reward. You have left a lot of love as your legacy. May you rest in peace.

Terribly sad to hear about the passing of Patrick. Was kind to everyone he met. Great person to talk to in St Marys Tennis Club and outside. Always helped people whenever they were stuck. Will be missed
When I received this very sad and totally unexpected news of Paddy's death last Thurs 15/4, I really couldn't believe it. I still struggle to take it in. He was one of my first and best friends who I met at Mount Crozier tennis club at maybe 4 years old. We had many many happy hours together playing tennis and croquet at Mt Crozier and Rushbrooke tennis club, soccer, walking Cobh countryside, chatting about everything, socialising over a drink, and at his house where his mother would always ensure we weren't hungry. He was kind and thoughtful and competitive on the tennis court. He was also my Best Man. In latter years we mainly connected by phone, but I picked up on his diligence to teaching, great work with Vincent de Paul, his love of reading and current affairs, his gentle, caring and generous nature. Thank you Paddy for knowing you. We'll all miss you terribly, but Heaven has gained. May you Rest in Peace.
Condolence to all the Coakley family on the sudden loss of Paddy. Such sad news. A lovely gentle man. Rest easy Paddy.
Paddy, We talked recently about the wealth we accumulate. Not wealth in terms of Euros or dollars, but the friends we gather around us on this journey through life. Well cousin, I wish you could see these messages. You were indeed a wealthy man. You were loved and you will be missed.
I will miss your texts, your notes about the various documentaries you watched during the week and just hearing about the joy you derived from pretty much everything around you. But most of all I will miss you. Rest In Peace.

Sincere condolences to Paddy’s relatives at this sad time.
Our family have very fond memories of Paddy – from Rushbrooke tennis club, to being a regular for five-a-side football in the garden, and, in later years, visits for a catch up and tea.
I was in his first Maths class, when he did his H.Dip. in Colaiste Muire in 1980/81, and still remember his enthusiasm to share his passion for Maths.
Rest in peace Paddy.
Oh my gosh. We are so so shocked and sorry to hear of Particks sudden passing. What a gentle gentleman and soul. So unassuming and kind. So many happy memories.
