I was stunned to hear of Paddy's passing. Paddy was my closest friend & ally when we were teens in Bray. We both had great years in St. Kevin's Pipe Band. Paddy was a brilliant piper. We had great days travelling to such far-away places as Wicklow and Durrow to play in band competitions. Neither of our families had cars, so being in the pipe band was our escape route. We regularly went to concerts in the National Boxing Stadium and saw the great Rory Gallagher, and the great Gary Moore live. On two occasions we walked back to Bray as we had missed the last bus ! The year I completed my Leaving Cert , we stood out on the N11 with rucksacks and a tent and thumbed around Ireland in 2 weeks. We went wherever the next car brought us. Over our secondary school years, Paddy spent a lot of time in my house in Beech Road and I spent a lot of time in his house. We hung out together on the seafront. Paddy was 3 years behind me in school but he was a genius. Paddy always had a smile. I agree with some of the statements above about his fashion sense. On a memorable December night some years ago, I went for a few pints with him in Dalkey - Paddy stepped out in red pants. I sported my white beard. So, inevitably we met a smart arse drunk asking us if we were working for Santa. Paddy didn't care. We had both braved Beech Road and Ledwidge Crescent and Bray Main Street in our band kilts - we had learned how to take a slagging. We just laughed it off. Rest easy my friend. I'm heart-broken.

Ah Paddy, you were a good pal and great company in our youth . We enjoyed many a laugh together. Rest in peace my friend, and say hello to Duck Martin if you run into him up there in heaven. Sincerest condolences to Paddy’s family and friends. I knew Paddy growing up and reconnected with him in 2018 when we were both in St. Vincent’s Hospital. He was a one off character and great company.
