Paddy McNamara a true gentleman I was privileged to have known him for so many years. i'm sure St. Peter said come straight in Paddy and meet your friends. A proud Longford man. May your gentle soul rest in peace. I will miss you Paddy. Condolences to all your family.
I worked in the Dun Maeve for the summers of 1965/66 for Paddy & Mrs. McNamara as a junior barman & cocktail & wine waiter for the dining room .
Being that I was a sixteen year old boy , it was a dream job with
beautiful people , marvellous food ,
gorgeous girls & fast cars all balanced by the wisdom and fun of Paddy’s elderly Mother in Law who also lived in the Hotel and was loved and cared for by the Camelotian couple .
Paddy used to drive me the two miles home to Collooney after midnight . At that stage he always drove a sports car and I would encourage him to open her up on that long straight from the bend after “The Thatch “to the bend before the railway bridge
the Collooney side of Carrignagat.
It was a different time to now and there were no cars or People on that road at that time of night .
He got her , one unforgettable night ,to the full 120 mph ,with the wind behind her, as we both shouted and screemed with delight , like boys with no care in the world .
Who would not love a Man like that .
Bless Him and the Lovely Family and Friends I saw Him surrounded by .
