Patrick (Paddy) Murray

It has taken me a while to accept that Paddy is in heaven. Paddy worked with my late Dad, Colm, for many years in the Indo, and then I was working in the Tribune when Paddy was there. I read his blogs avidly and also his book of journo memories, and commented on his social media with great regularity. I can just imagine Colm and Paddy having a few pints and a catch-up gossip Upstairs. Paddy will have done his PubSpy review of the pints available.

Sorry to hear of Paddy’s sad passing

So sad to hear of Paddy’s passing, sincere sympathy to Connie, Charlotte and the Murray family. Paddy put up a great fight over the past few years and became an important voice for people who are struggling with life. Through his own suffering we got to see his fine character and great sense of humour. May he rest in peace.

So sorry to hear of Paddy's passing. We spent many hilarious days (and nights!) together covering the Rose of Tralee Festival, where we were fixtures - me for the Examiner - for many years. Paddy was great company and even better craic, but more importantly, a wonderful human being. May God be good to you Paddy..

And we met up in South Africa for the 1995 World Cup. He did me many favours along the way. May he now rest in the peace he so surely deserves!

Paddy was a wonderful colleague and a truly gifted journalist. I worked with him on the Herald and his talent stood out. Mostly though I remember him for that twinkle in his eye and way he’d make you laugh. Latterly his contributions to Twitter - honest, sensible and acerbic by turn - were a great way of keeping in touch.
