Patrick (Padraig) McNally

Really saddened to hear of the loss of Paddy. He was my lecturer many years ago in DCU. I remember him as a very gifted, encouraging and enthusiastic teacher and as a very nice man.

My deepest sympathies to Catherine and the others of Paddy's family. Paddy was a wonderful colleague and friend when we worked together at DCU for almost twenty years and also when I moved on. He was a great scientist and engineer, full of novel ideas and insights and he was a pleasure to be associated with.

Sending my deepest condolences to Paddy’s family. It was terribly sad to hear of his untimely passing. Paddy’s infectious enthusiasm for science and engineering was a great inspiration to me as a rookie PhD student back when I met him in 2005. It was no coincidence that I eventually joined his research group in 2009 and I thoroughly enjoyed my time at DCU with Paddy as my mentor, my supervisor and, ultimately, my friend. He played a pivotal role in my academic career – allowing me freedom and encouraging me to explore my own research interests while at DCU, then providing help and support even after I left and even later, when I moved to the other side of the world. His practice of encouraging young researchers is something I will pass forward, with the odd Bob Dylan quote for good measure! I’m incredibly grateful for Paddy’s help along the way and shall miss him terribly.
