Pat was a wonderful colleague. I remember him as the adjudicator at the Maytime Drama Festival in Dundalk in my early days at St Pat’s – his engagement, authority and sound judgement were all very evident, and underpinned with intelligent humour. From meetings (both formal & informal) to recitations at parties, his contributions were always full of vitality. As a colleague he was supportive and encouraging, especially to younger members of the St Pat’s staff – as I was once. To Máire, Patrick and all his family, I wish you heartfelt condolences for your loss. May his memory be as a blessing to you all.

Pat gave me my first role in Dublin Shakespeare, and I had the pleasure of working with him on many productions. He was incredibly talented and knowledgeable, generously sharing his expertise, his sharp wit always tempered with kindness and fun. My condolences to Maire and all of Pat's family.

It's very sad to hear that Pat is gone. He was a wonderful scholar and practitioner in Irish Theatre, and shared his enthusiasm most generously. He bore his long illness with huge courage and fortitude. He will be greatly missed by all of his academic colleagues and especially I'm sure by everyone at St. Patricks.

I had the privilege of having Pat as my supervisor for my MA thesis. He was the personification of the term 'a scholar and a gentleman'. A learned man with a great memory for detail and very generous with it too. Knew how to laugh as well. Rest in peace.
