Patrick (Pat) Monaghan

My apologies for being late with this tribute, but I heard the sad news only recently. I worked in Leinster House for 15 years, and like so many of the staff there, became very fond of Pat. He was so much more than a colleague. He hosted a Captain’s Day outing for the staff in Corrstown around 2006, and gave us a memorable day out. He treated us all to carol services, and watched out for us all regularly. Everyone loved him, and we’re shocked and sad to see him go. I’ll pray for him, and for you - his family. Pat was one of the greats of our time, and we won’t forget him

I knew Pat through Éilis since she and I were teenagers. He was a wonderful combination of kindness, courtesy and a wry sense of humour. He had a great wit but his jokes were always gentle. He and Adrienne were such a unit and so dedicated to their family, who will miss them both dreadfully. I used to run into him occasionally in the Dail and was always proud to tell others that I knew him when I did. He was such a gentleman and so highly regarded there. Like St Therese, I know he will spend his heaven in doing good on earth.
