Mere words cannot sufficiently elucidate the degree to which I miss you. You were a constant in my life from nascencey onward. Memories of you populate my mind: the trips to Dun Laoghaire to feed the pigeons, going to and from school on the cross bar, and our daily chats when you'd pop in, during which you'd display the prodigious breadth of knowledge you possessed, whether the topic be local history or some obscure French academic who deciphered ancient hieroglyphics - I still can't recall his name.

But even bereft of such memories, you are a man worthy of admiration: austere, yet kind; soberly aware of life's harsh realities, yet nevertheless cognisant that life possess a humorous subtext to it, and that maybe we ought to smile at the tribulations that we inevitably confront. Your chief quality was selflessness, you put others before yourself, and those close to you know of the debt we owe you.

It is a privilege to be your grandson.

Nearly every day for the past 7 years, Paddy has lit up my day with a smile, a wave or a wink.
One day we passed each other, both dripping wet with rain…Paddy smiled and said ‘liquid sunshine’ and gave me a wink…
I have never looked at the rain the same since.

sincere condolences Mary and Marie, i only just heard here in Kerry. He was special. i got to know him from swimming down the wall and he always made me laugh even on sad occasions ever since. I will miss him but am grateful i knew him.

My fondest memory of Paddy when I was a child was waking up to a lovely warm fire and a pot of porridge ready for us before we went to school.
