“Mr. Blackie” (we’d never have called him Paul!), was a joker and a gentleman who stayed awake until the wee hours to bring his daughter and her crazy friends home when taxis couldn’t be got. I will always remember him as having a smile on his face and no matter what was going on, looking at the positive spin on any situation.

A huge loss to his family and the community. He leaves behind giant shoes that will never be filled and grief so deep it just reflects the love he gave to those around him.

It was with great sadness I learned of Paul's passing. He was the one who arranged my first career break, one I continue to enjoy. A lovely, kind man.

To Anne and family, as one of the many polymer students at ARTC whom Paul lectured, I was so sorry to hear of his passing. He was always supportive of his students and made great connections and networks for them with industry. It was always a pleasure to meet him at various events and conferences where he would always ask about your classmates and their latest career moves. He was genuine and kind. Paul was the essence of a gentleman with a soft & pleasant demeanor.
I had the privilege of being lectured and advised by Paul during his tenure at Athlone RTC/IT and I will always remember him.

I have very fond memories of Paul as one of my polymer lecturers in AIT in the late eighties. I got to know him again over the past 10 years or more, as part of the IOM/IPG group. He was always gentle, kind and just a real pleasure to work with and to be around. He made a huge contribution to the polymer industry in Ireland over many years and will be sadly missed by so many. May he rest in peace.
