Mooching (a very Paul Gill word, I think) around the internet and found this 'news'. Sad news. Paul was always great company, a joy to be with, very generous and kind, with a great sense of humour.
He'll be off round the bay with Frank now.
Hope to meet again Paul, but not too soon. Let you settle in first.
All my love to Jackie and Elisabeth xx
James Gill
PS Shame I had to find out, so late and like this. But some people value their ego, more than being decent.

Saddened to learn that Paul is gone. I knew him in his student days where even though he was from Dublin he had the outgoing and friendly nature of a Westport man. He had an ability to engage and empathise with others while not being pious. I had heard that he had become ill and that Jacqui was a wonderful stouthearted support to him. Condolences to both Jacqui and Elizabeth and the wider Gill families.

Dear Jackie & Elizabeth
We were very sorry to hear about the passing of Paul. Our sincerest condolences. Paul was a very kind and welcoming man. Paul was my cousin, and I saw Paul, John and the Gills through my youth and into adulthood, visiting the house in Clonskeagh. and later, Paul, Jackie and Elizabeth in their home in Rathmines. In his many visits to British Columbia, and in Ireland, Paul was engaging, warm and conversant in a broad array of topics, from the house pets, to action films, to family characters, to the current political climate. He really kept up a vibrant connection with his extended family across the water. Thank you Paul.

I send my condolences to Jackie and Elizabeth and all Paul’s friends and colleagues at this sad time. I remember him since our student days as a most amiable friend and colleague. May he rest In peace
I and we all love(d) and enjoyed Paul very much, myself one of his first cousins and our mother Aunt Aideen (Lydon) from Canada. We still hear and will always re-member his beautiful voice, he did so love to chat! Paul, Jackie and Elizabeth were so welcoming over decades of visits together in both Ireland ( esp Dublin and Island More) and Canada. Paul's wit, warmth, kindness, enthusiasm and generosity infused all of our times together and his example will stay with me as ways to be and to live each day. Our mom Auntie Aideen ( now 96 years old) was very close to Paul and he visited her and her late husband Ivor in Canada for many years - his effort brought great joy and warmth to them. Paul has returned to creation - the Creator and he truly lives on in our hearts forever, a shining star. Thank you Jackie and Lizzie for sharing Paul with us- we are all here for you now.
Sincere condolences to Jackie and Elizabeth on the passing of Paul. I have fond memories of our trips to Westport years ago and am saddened by the news.
Deepest condolences to Jackie and Lizzie on your loss.
So sorry to hear of Paul's passing. He was lovely man to the end. We were classmates from the age of 8 and cycled home together many a day. 50 years later he was a great support to me in the latter years of my work before I retired. His ability to work through his own challenges since then was admirable and he brought joy to us classmates even still. I won't get to any of the ceremonies in his memory over these days but Ó Raifteri's poem is what I wish for Paul:
Anois Teacht an Earraigh le Raifterí an File:
Anois teacht an earraigh
/ Now with the coming of spring
Beidh an lá ag dul chun síneadh
/ the days will be getting longer
'S tar éis na Féile Bríde
/ and after the feast of Bridget
Ardóidh mé mo sheol
/ I will raise my sail
Ó chuir mé i mo cheann é
/ Since I got it into my head
Ní chónóidh mé choíche
/ I will not settle
Go seasfaidh mé síos
/ Until I will step down
I gChontae Mhaigh Eo
/ In the County Mayo.
Love to you Jackie, to Elizabeth and to Paul.

Sincerest condolences on the loss of Paul. I worked with him as a newly qualified litigation solicitor in Dillon Eustace and he was a gentleman personally and professionally. I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Paul. He was such a kind and fun loving character who was always the best of company. In particular, I will always remember the amazing few days we spent with your family in Clew Bay when I was a teenager. They are memories that will stay with me forever and we still have some fantastic framed photos in our home of our time at sea on that trip, catching mackerel and having fun.
My thoughts are with you all at this very sad time.
Lots of love,
Andrew McGovern

Sincere condolences. As a solicitor, there was none to match him for courtesy.
My most sincere condolences on the sad passing of Paul. I had the pleasure of an annual business meeting with Paul, for many years. Sometimes it could be brief if he was busy, but in later years we had time for conversation, and I always enjoyed this time with a “most interesting man”.
My deepest sympathies to you, Jackie and Elizabeth, at this sad time.
I have very fond memories of Paul's warm and generous hospitality at your place on our occasional visits to Dublin. And of course, his deep appreciation of a good CAKE.
May he rest in peace.

My deepest sympathies to Jackie and Elizabeth. Paul was such a wonderful, bright, funny, warm and empathetic man. He was also a really great lawyer with a very interesting career spanning everything from ship arrests and other maritime law cases to high profile defamation proceedings, and so much more in between. And he was a fabulous mentor. It will always be my badge of honour to have been Paul’s first apprentice. Thank you Paul.
Jackie and Elizabeth our deepest sympathy on the death of Paul - this brings back so many memories, and memory of so many wonderful people that Paul has now joined.. May he rest in peace.

Paul was my master when I was an apprentice in Dillon Eustace many years ago. I have very fond memories of " arresting ships" in Dublin Port with him. He was always patient and understanding with me at times when I deserved neither. May he rest in peace.
Sincere condolences to Elizabeth and family, at this time of terrible loss. RIP.
I'm very sorry to hear of that passing of Paul. I worked in the litigation dept of Dillon Eustace and knew Paul. He was a very nice man with a lovely presence. May he RIP.
Jackie and Elizabeth, so sorry to hear of your loss. We had a long association going back to Frank and Rita in the 60’s and 70’s. Many outings to Iveagh baths with Paul and John, chips after at Fortes. My mum and Rita were particularly close, especially trying to mate their miniature das hounds Max and Rufus.
Rest in peace.
