My heartfelt condolences to all Pauls family and his many friends.
Our island has lost a lovely and gentle man. He gave me an impromptu wee class a few years ago when I was home.
He told me little bits about his life and art on the occasions I stopped by to say hi, he was a brilliant artist and I only interrupted him when it looked like he had a minute! Other times he was focused on his work, a wave and a smile was plenty on those occasions...I miss that dear man, and the birds, all the little sparrows that hung out with him waiting for seeds, bless you Paul for all you did while you were with us. I am extremely sad to just find out about this. We met him on a trip to Ireland, I was admiring his work and he asked me where I came from, I said Canada, he asked me if I knew Bergen I said yes the place with the sculptures, he was surprised that I knew the place, then I showed him on my phone my favorite sculpture there, a tall beautiful celtic cross, turns out this cross was made by him! He got the biggest smile and he was so very happy when I showed him! It is a memory that I will always treasure in my heart! Rest in Peace Paul, I hope you are in a beautiful peaceful place. So sad to hear of Paul's passing. I met him like many others on Inis Oirr beach . He was a wealth of knowledge about our ancestry and was deeply in touch with spirit. Such a gentle and kind presence with a twinkle in his soul. I cherish the piece of art I wear around my neck created lovingly and expertly by his hand. My sympathy to Paul’s family and friends. I remember Paul, as a young teenager, playing tinwhistle in Donore parish hall, as a kind and gentle soul. I happened to be on Inis Oir when Paul passed, the local community were both shocked and saddened, as they remembered Paul with great love and affection. Ar deis Dé go raibh a anam.

I saw Paul everyday for a time on Inis Oirr, winter and summer, his kind and gentle presence always comforted me. He was a good man who did good in the world. Thinking of all bearing the loss of his passing.
