My sincerest condolences to the O'Toole family. I had the pleasure of meeting Paul on the coffee circuit. Whether it was on 'cupping' sessions in Bewleys or at conferences / trade shows, I was always in a better place after having met Paul. Few are masters of their craft like Paul was. Equally impressive was the humility in which he educated the rest of us. I speak of him often to others. May he rest in peace.
To the O'Toole and Watson families, Thinking of you all at this sad time. Sincere condolences.

We are so saddened to hear of the loss of Paul and send our sincere condolences to Lesley and the family. Paul was a true friend and long standing tea colleague with whom we shared many fun filled moments. Such a great man.
Dear Lesley and family,

May I offer you all my heartfelt condolences during this sad time. I had the pleasure of knowing Paul through my work with Fairtrade in Ireland, and was privileged to have traveled with Paul to Colombia around 5 years ago. His knowledge and passion for coffee was remarkable and what I remember most was his warmth, kindness and love for people, the legacy he leaves will continue to reach far and wide.
With love,
Ciara
Dear Lesley

I am so sorry for your loss and grief. Paul bore his illness with much stoicism and good humour, it was a pleasure for me to be able to look after him when he attended his last SCTA coffee dinner in Switzerland.
He also was so delighted by his children and grandchildren.
We at Ecom are also grateful for the lovely working relationship we had with him and my colleagues loved his origin visits each year.
I too will miss his presence and companionship and hope the next stretch is not too lonely for you.
Deepest condolences to all Paul's family and friends. I knew Paul from a very young age, we journeyed through St David's for many years in the same class. A tragic loss to all who loved him and knew him. Mey he rest in peace.
Dear Leslie & family,

Paul was so proud of you all and spoke with great pride about you including recently about the marathon fund raising efforts for other people’s health care.
I was lucky to have hung out with him for work here and abroad. He always had huge respect for the coffee farmers he met and helped out beyond the call of duty and with goodwill and great wit.

To Lesley and Family

We were very sorry to hear of Paul’s Sad passing.

I first met Paul in 1997 when I started working for “The Tea Company” in Walkinstown. He was an amazing source of Knowledge, wisdom and crack, a constant smile breaking into a laugh, and a good word for everyone.

I had many good nights out with him over the six years we worked together, and many great days in work. He was as passionate and expert a coffee and tea person as I have ever met and he loved sharing his passion with people.

Our paths crossed many times since we worked together, and he was alway as friendly and genuine as ever.

He will be missed by many and well remembered.

wherever you are now, the party is just about to get going!

Rest in Peace Paul

Dear Paul,
The moment I learned that you had passed away , the Memory Lane movie started playing.
I think it was in 2007 that I first met you . I came to visit Bewley’s trying to get you onboard with our company, to sell green coffee to you. You told me it was ok to visit you if I could also invite you for dinner... That was the beginning of a longterm annual dinner tradition. We had fantastic dinner dates over the years together with other Bewley’s colleagues (dear Sandra B), which always ended up loud due to the amounts of wine we drunk. Our last dinner was in 2020 just before the covid pandemic broke out. You were already ill then, but still you enjoyed it so much . … That evening will always be a very special memory for me. Paul, you were a fantastic person, a great character , one of a kind! Thanks for all the good moments we shared together. I am so upset now, I offer my deepest condolences to your family, friends and beloved ones.

Dorine Dam , your friend and coffee trader from Arasco Food BV The Netherlands
I had the pleasure of working with Paul and Bewley's over many years. He taught me so much about the fascinating world of coffee, wore his immense expertise lightly and was a very kind and professional person. Sincere sympathy to Lesley, Katie, Ben and Luke. Kind regards from Tim and all at MKC Communications.

All of us at Cafedirect and Bewley's UK are very sad to hear of Paul's death. His passion for life and passion for and deep knowledge of coffee and the industry made him a well loved and respected colleague. Whether engaging with farmers at origin, working with colleagues to expand the business and impart knowledge, or just on a social occasion, his warmth and authenticity shone through. “Nature’s first green is gold
Her hardest hue to hold
Her early leaf’s a flower
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf,
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day
Nothing gold can stay.”

Deepest condolences on the heartbreaking loss of Paul to all friends and family, A popular man whose legacy lives on through his 3 amazing children. Sending all the love and hugs at this difficult time.
Lesley , Katie , Luke and Ben my heart goes out to you all at this hopelessly sad time.

As long as I have known and enjoyed Paul , working , joking , laughing and being patiently educated by him in Bewley’s, it will be his final lesson that will always stay with me: how he courageously faced down his illness with breezy indifference and outrageous good humor …….. he just insisted on extracting the very best craic out of life to the end.

A consummate coffee Bewley’s icon , he was an irresistible , lovable rascal and fun guy to be around anytime at work or at play , truly a legend and he will be remembered so fondly by countless people worldwide in coffee. He signed off so many mails and texts with an “x” and I can think of no better way to say goodbye to him from very far away.
Rest Peacefully ..... x
Paul was an Icon in the coffee industry and from the day I met him, he was always nothing less than a gentleman and an open and accepting person. He was always in it for the great good, not for the goodness of himself. I will always cherish the friendship I had with him

My condolences go out to Leslie and the rest of the family
