I’m so sorry to see that this lovely man has passed away. I never even knew his name. I only ever said hallo to him in the street but was always delighted to see him. I first bumped into him in the city library in the mid 80’s when I used to go there to get my fathers library books. We always saluted one another since then. Paul you’ll be missed greatly. May you rest in peace.

Always wanted to sit and chat with this gentleperson. But he was not very outgoing and i would just give him a smile and nod on his favourite bench at river entrance to Merchants quay. Seemed a decent guy. Maybe he carried pain in his heart ;-( I am so sad to hear the news.

I first met Paul about 40 years ago or more. We always stopped for a chat. What a lovely lovely man so softly and beautifully spoken and so interesting to talk to. Paul you will be missed by many. May you rest in Peace now.

I'm sorry to learn of Pauls passing. I always saw him and he made Cork such a better place. I felt sorry for him and his friends during lockdown when benches where taken away. Cork people will always remember this kind man. He made it our city so thank you Paul and sleep easy. Sympathy to all his family. Ar dheis dé go raibh a hanam dilis.

I used to see him in Merchants Quay and he would always nod and give me a lovely smile. No matter how I felt on the day he would always make me feel better. I will now do the same in Merchants Quay in memory of him, thank you Paul and may you rest in peace.

I always used to see this gentleman in merchants quay when i was in cork and he was always sitting on his bench. i hope a bench will be in his memory . rest easy
I was very sorry to hear of the passing of Paul. He was a true gentleman. I used to meet him in Merchants Quay on a Saturday and always had a chat with him. Merchant's Quay will not be the same without him. Condolences to all his Family. May Paul rest in peace.

Rest in peace Paul and my condolences to Paul’s family and friends. I never knew Paul but used to see him walking a lot around town and the Sunday’s Well area starting in the late 80’s, early 90’s on my way to school. He always smiled and said hello. I thought he had a kind face. Now that I won’t see you around any more, I’ll miss you. See you in the next life some day and maybe we can have a chat then, kind and gentle soul.

Deepest condolences to Pauls family. Paul was part of the furniture in Cork city. One of the great characters that was so familiar to everybody. I first remember Paul from Paul st shopping centre/ quinnsworth in the 80s/90s - there used to be indoor benches but were removed. He was chatty to anyone that sat next to him for a chat. I hope Paul is resting in peace now in heaven. I knew him for years to see but noticed he was absent for awhile now. The poor man was gentle but looked like he had endured something tough. He spent many the long lonesome day around Merchant's Quay while others got on with their lives.
I first met Neil around 1970 in Dublin. He had a hard life. We're very sorry to hear the news of his passing. Condolences to Paul and all the Kirwan family. May Neil rest in peace and may we meet again in eternity.
