Our paths crossed occasionally in the public service. I was always impressed by his calm manner and good judgement.

I had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know Paul at Fitzwilliam tennis club. He was a strong tennis player. I knew him from circuit training class also. He was lean, fast and competitive, which usually woke up the rest of the class. He was a star in those classes.
Paul told me a little of his career. He started in a Department (Economic Planning) that was abolished almost as soon as he was employed there. He was moved to either Health or the Department of an Taoiseach and was the first trained economist employed there. He loved the excitement of an evolving public sector and the forceful political leadership . He then worked, eventually, in the private sector, one or more banks. From there, it was back to public sector and IPA to which( along with other business interests) he was devoted in his third, or more, part of his career.
It was a pleasure to spend time in his warm, upbeat and interesting company. I was shocked to hear he had died and he will be a terrible loss.
My condolences to Bernie, Rob Neil and James

Such a sad and untimely loss.
Paul was a great chap for an interesting chat and a discussion on wide ranging topics over a coffee in Fitzwilliam Tennis Club.
l have memories of watching him playing doubles on the show court in Fitwilliam from last year and offering him an unsolicited commentary on his game which he took with humour and good grace as I expected. It was fun to rib Paul and he could give as good as he got.
He was also a real stalwart of our bookclub and we have sorely missed his friendship, insights, and contributions in the last few months.
We all spoke about our genuinely fond memories and we shared stories about Paul at our most recent bookclub evening a week ago.
From our whatsapp group it seems that most of us from the bookclub are away abroad at the minute and so were not able to attend the funeral.
Our sincere condolences to Bernie and all the family.

I did not know Paul very well, but remember attending a course he gave at the IPA where he was an outstanding lecturer, both in terms of content and clarity. I particularly remember his patient, friendly and encouraging manner. I also knew him slightly in Fitzwilliam where he was again a charming and friendly fellow member. I was shocked to hear of his passing and wish to send my sincere condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.
Deepest condolences to Bernie and family on the loss of Paul. I’ve known Paul since we were in Jnr infants together in St Fintans. I remember him as being academically bright and good at sport. I felt privileged to spend those brief moments in Beaumont with him before he passed. Thinking of you all as I watch the live stream of his mass. May he rest in peace. Brian.

We only met Paul in person once, at Frank's 70th birthday party. However he did leave a lasting impression. And... of course one cannot be a visitor to Percy Place and not have been regaled with the various escapades of the Turpin 'bros'. We are saddened to hear of Paul's death but glad to know he died surrounded by his family.
