I worked with Paula in the Carnegie Library in Dun Laoghaire and later in Stillorgan Library, It was very enriching and a pleasure to work with Paula, I will remember her with great warmth. Rest in Peace Paula in your heavenly meadows. Sincere sympathies to Paula's family.
Sorry about being so late, I was away when Paula passed away. I knew her from our walking club and I saw her as a person of both extreme gentleness and also extreme strength. So many beautiful tributes give the full picture of the inspiring human being she was. I had suggested to her to take us on a botanic walk, but her illness cut short to the plan. In an other life may be?
Paula loved books and she loved people. These two loves drew many into her life – those she chatted with at work at the Library counter, those she visited in her free time bringing books she judged they would appreciate. At the end of 2006 she decided to found a book club, approached us (all people from different areas of her life and with different opinions). We were school friends, family, work colleagues, walking club members. Our diversity has led to some interesting reads and passionate discussions over the years since January, 2007! Paula was able to join us for just an hour at our last meeting on 11 June: it meant a lot to her and to us. We know she will be with us in spirit on 24 July.
Eithne, Isolde, Mairead, Rose Mary, Susan, Yvonne
Paula I will always remember you as one of life’s special people, it is so hard to believe you are no longer with us. Paula was my friend for over 40 years, we had so many adventures together. My fondest memories are the days we spent at your cottage near Loughcrew, searching the local woods & bogs for different herbs and wild flowers, the ones you so wanted to find but that kept evading your searches. Paula you broadened my horizons and you brought so much happiness into my life. I am so lucky to have had the privilege of your friendship for so many years. I will miss you greatly.
So sorry to hear of Paula’s passing.
We were nelghbours in Eden Park many decades ago , and the terms kind and gentle were as true then as latterly.
I had the pleasure of working closely with Paula in 2002 on her beautiful exhibition Wildflowers of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown. Her knowlege and love of her subject was so clear to see and she took such care taking her wonderful photos of the flowers. The exhibition travelled to every library in the County - and beyond in the following years. Only this morning I was on a Forager's Walk in Merrion Square and, as always when amongst wildflowers, I thought of Paula. She was ahead of her time and thankfully the use of pesticides and weedkiller is waning in public parks and there is a wider awareness of the benefits of wildflowers.
I loved working with Paula in dlr Libraries for several years - she had a kind and gentle nature, she was immensely talented as an artist and she enjoyed sharing in the wonders of creativity with young and old alike. It was a privilege to know her.
With deepest sympathy to her brothers, extended family and many dear friends.
I was sorry to hear of Paula's passing and pray that she is now enjoying a new life in paradise.
Deep sadness at news of Paula's death. We had last been in touch a few weeks before she died. But going back in time to my one year at Mount Anville before attending Roscrea as a boarder, the lapse of years seems short before we met each other again and continued a deep spiritual friendship up to the present time.
She stayed with Edward and myself and our family a few times here in Rhode Island and Paula and I went to Florida together and on another ocasion to Los Angeles to stay with our friend Elise.
Such wonderful memories! Paula's beautiful kind gentle and sensitive spirit defined her. She was always generous and full of compassion for others.
Her closeness to nature amazed me and I loved hearing all the knowledge that poured out of her - she had a good remedy for everything along with a strong desire to help others in need of her care.
I will miss all our great conversations. I will miss Paula. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
Love and sympathy to dear Paula’s family and friends. A lovely soul at peace now.
