Pearse Harvey

Pearse was a sweet and lovely gentleman .
He was instrumental in keeping jazz alive in Cork .
I will miss him dearly .

The creation of the Jazz Festival in my home city was such a wonderful pleasure for me and has left some indelible memories.

On the eve of dear Pearse's service tomorrow, please know that we Harvey's in America are, and will continue to hold you all near to our hearts and in our prayers. Despite the distance, we have been so blessed to have wonderful memories of Pearse. For myself, Paul, and Alex, going back as far as 1996, with my most recent visit with Pearse in 2017. A most wonderful man, who always made me feel so welcomed. And always made time to visit on my trips over. I will miss having him there but I will treasure that and his memory, always. I am so grateful for you all. And my Dad, Brian, though just a young man when he left Ireland and the UK, also sends his loving thoughts and prayers.

My heartfelt condolences to all of the Harvey Family following Pearse's passing. I have fond memories of both Pearse & Avril during the mid-1990's as we were all studying Public Relations at UCC on Saturdays. Pearse was always such a gentleman, had a huge interest in the jazz music scene and was great company to be around. I am so sorry for your loss and I am thinking of you all at this sad and difficult time.

BACKGROUND: Pearse was sent to New York to accompany Ella Fitzgerald to Cork for the Jazz Festival, circa 1980. The following day after the concert, he met me in the city and told me to follow him. We went to Cork Airport and he gate-crashed me into the VIP lounge and introduced me to the great lady. Thank you Pearse for the great honour. Rest in peace. That's a great memory forever.
