Pete Doherty

Pete's paternal grandparents were Neil and Catherine(maiden name Foy).
Their children in descending age order: Mary(my maternal grandmother) ,Patrick(died young),Biddy,Grace,Peter,Kitty,
Neil,Patrick(honouring deceased brother) ,Annie,Hughie.
Tragically my grandmother Mary was widowed as a young
woman of 25 (15th March 1913, funeral on St.Patrick's day).She had 3 children under 5 plus my mother Rosie (23Feb1913 - 16Nov.2013) as a new born baby.
Out of sheer necessity my mother was raised by her
grandparents back in Drim.
So I have received folk memory from my mother of times over 100 years ago as well as first
hand experience of Drim.

Over the the years wonderful people supporting
each other, Pete himself looking after my uncle Neil McCormick and in turn been
well taken care of by the next generation.
Using the expression which can be found in the writings of Peig Sayers from Great Blasket Island:

'Ar scath a cheile a mhaireann na daoine' ('In the shelter of each other the people live')

To Josie and the Doherty, Dooley, Browne, and McMenamin families:
Sending heartfelt sympathy and prayers at this time of sorrow after learning of Peter’s passing from Danny McCormick. I fondly remember visiting Drim with my father, Uncle Hughie, meeting the family including Peter and Josie many years ago. May he Rest In Peace.

Many precious memories of Pete and other family members in Drim right from childhood summer holidays with our mother Rosie. Thanks for looking after the lambs our mother bought for us, the poitin(purely kept for medicinal purposes with sickly lambs),love of traditional music and especially for looking after our uncle Neil McCormick .
