My heartfelt condolences Maura, and to Peter’s niece and nephews. Pete was much more than a great farmer; he was a natural historian with a formidable intellect. In another life, he could have been an analytical researcher, such was the depth of his memory and his encyclopedic knowledge of family lineages across Longford and Westmeath.

Beyond his work and his passion for local heritage, we will fondly remember his love for a game of poker and his trips to Punchestown and supporting Longford GAA. It is a testament to the man he was, that his neighbours cared for him so deeply, enabling him to remain active in the farming life he loved. He leaves a void that will be felt by the entire community. Rest in peace, Pete.

We were very sad to hear of Pete’s passing, he was an absolute gentleman. Pete was a great friend and political supporter of our Father Victor, always available to canvass and help in any way.
