I was shocked to hear today about Pete's passing, RIP.

A life well lived and enjoyed. He was good fun and a kind man.

You would need to set aside a good hour to get a full rundown of all his outings and social events and he so enjoyed his annual outing with his neighbours and friends, the most recent one I heard was down to Leitrim and The Shed Distillery tour followed by a boat trip on the Shannon! I know he enjoyed the company of those friends very much.

He also loved to hear my news about my boys, what they were doing, football and farming around Carrick-on-Shannon. He spoke fondly of his sisters, Maura and Roisin (RIP). I am so sorry for your loss, Maura.

He was blessed to have good neighbours who helped him out daily and looked out for him. My condolences to you also.

I have fond memories of meeting Pete regularly when I was Chairman of Longford IFA county executive between 199 and 2003 when Pete attended co executive meetings that were held in Slashers GAA clubhouse.

Pete will always be remembered for the great days and laughter shared in the Longford GAA tent at the Punchestown Festival over the years, and for the wonderful outings in Lough Rynn, where he had a special gift for bringing friends together.

I will also always remember Pete bringing me down to see the cattle, where I’d be told to tip-toe and whisper-quiet so as not to startle the cattle, moments that captured his gentle nature and love of the land.

Those memories will stay with us always. May Pete rest in peace, and may you all find comfort in the love and friendship he shared so generously.
