Peter Best

I felt so sad to learn, only today in October, that Peter had died. So many laughter and joke filled moments when getting my hair done in Clon sprang to mind, with tears. Thank you Pete for the fun and generosity. My warm thoughts and sympathy to Laura and the family members.

Sincere condolances to all of Peter's family and friends - He was my hairdresser in Skibberen in my youth and on my wedding day almost 39 years ago I can still remember the panic when I arrived at the salon in Bridge street for my very early appointment and found the salon shut... but then of course Peter strolled across the strret calmly as he did and did his magic on my crown!' Rest in peace Peter.

My brother Finbarr and I are sorry to hear of Peter's passing. We grew up a few doors away from the Best family in Bridge St., Skibbereen and he was our barber for many years. We also remember hearing his band White Wine rehearse in the evenings in the old back store in Hosford's Yard while we did our homework. We'd have Radio Luxembourg pumping out "Jumping Jack Flash" on one side and White Wine rocking away a few yards away out the back. Good memories. Peter was undoubtedly the closest thing we had to a rock star in Skibb in those days. May he rest in peace.

So sorry to hear of Peters passing to his wife Laura & all his family. Peter was a lovely gentleman & always had a great chat & joke with him both in his saloon in skibb & later in Clon. We were all lost when he retired . Later when i met him with you in clon he said you Laura was his rock. Hope he enjoys eternal peace . He will be sadly missed .

Sincere condolences to Laura, Liam, Ella and the rest of Petes family. Pete was the best man for cutting curly hair, & cut my curls for many years in Clonakilty. We always had the best chats & discussions on every topic and a great laugh. And then after the haircuts, we d go to the pub & Pete would entertain us with the Hoochie Coochie Band or some other line up. Such a talented kind and warm gentleman, SO sorry for your loss, RIP Pete and thanks.

Pete's passing leaves a void in all our lives. A wonderful hairdresser ( mine for over forty years), musician and friend. Going for the hairdo meant at times recollections of the arrival of "the Bests" to Skibbereen and always many laughs.
My last hair appointment he told me when I arrived was to be his last. I was shocked and sad and we both cried - but not to be. As I was leaving one of the Sisters from Clonakilty Convent arrived for a non-appointment hairdo, and then we laughed.
