I am so sorry to hear about Peter’s death. Such a great presence. He and Clive were pals at Barry’s in the evenings. My sympathy to his family and many friends.

Very sad to hear this, Peter was a lovely man. My sincerest condolences to his family and very many friends.

I first met Peter around 1969/70 when I timidly knocked on the door of his studio on Canel Walk & asked to see his Californian Gold Medal.
I have many fond memories of Peter over the years from teaching at NCAD & GMCS in Thomastown....trips to the Burren....tabernacle deliveries to London & Trillick in Co.Tyrone & of course the pub!
Peter was a very witty sociable person, a real gentleman & a highly talented silversmith & craftsman.....24 carat.
He will always be remembered & never forgotten.

The sad news of Peter's leaving has just reached me in Dorset. May he rest in peace. So many happy memories of working together in KDW and remembering when Peter opened his own workshop on Canal Walk.

So sorry to hear of Peter's passing. Some of the fondest memories of my life came from those six months I spent in Thomastown in the 80's. He helped me find my way in the art of metalwork. I bumped into him in Thomastown in 2019 by chance and we chatted briefly. We'd different memories of that time together but I loved them and I'll always cherish those months. RIP Peter.

Peter's steady constant daily hammering and banging in the metalwork room in Grennan Mill Craft School over the years was the best lesson as an aspiring craftsperson that I could possibly have had. He worked really hard often for long late hours to finish the masterpieces that are now his legacy. It was my honour to have witnessed so much of it. He carried his skill and his talent lightly. He was the epitome of elegance and grace. He was wickedly funny and excellent company. He was some role model.

I will treasure my memories of both quiet times with him singing songs to the answers of the crossword clues in Murphy's pub at lunchtime and mad times watching his sitting down Irish dancing moves at the Mill Christmas parties. And very many more...

Rest in peace Peter Donovan, we will not forget you.

So sad to hear of Peter's passing. We have such fond memories of Peter, many happy hours were spent up at the house in Kilfane and exploring the local area around Thomastown and beyond. I shall sing a song in his memory here in London tomorrow - and perhaps will have a parting glass too. Indeed, I'm sure Peter was with us when myself and Therese and our mum Betty were in the garden of Bill Carrolls pub listening to the Voice Squad sing a fine rendition of that beautiful song. He was a true lover of fine things art and music in particular. A wonderful craftsman of the old school- it was a joy to occasionally bring his work to the Assay office in Dublin for him, it also gave me a chance to have a sneak preview of some of Irelands best modern silverware. Thanks for all the happy times Peter - may you rest in peace. Much love to the family at this sad time.

Very sad news indeed, Peter was a great man; an extremely talented and skillful silversmith, a wonderful, kind & patient teacher, and an all round great character. He taught us a lot about not only metal work, but about life and how to live it. Peter had a quick wit and was such great fun; he will be fondly remembered by so many of us that were lucky enough to be his students and enjoy his company.
