I have just learned of Peter's passing after looked at his Facebook page. I loved meeting up with Peter and having chats about all sorts. We used to go for coffee and visit gardens and historical sites. Covid and Peter's health reduced the frequency of these trips but I always looked forward to them. I got to know Peter when he came to my pottery class and we became friends. He was great for trying new things and probably my best student.
I will miss him.
My condolences to his family and close friends

It was very sad to hear that Peter has passed. He was great friend. It was a pleasure and a privilege to have worked with him throughout the decades. He had a remarkable intellect and talent. He was skilled and adept at every kind of camerawork, in the sky, underwater, in studio or on the side of a mountain. He was methodical in his work embracing both science and art. I can’t quantify what I learned from him and it was always interesting and fun to work with him.
He was a great raconteur and a good mimic. Peter was a legend for sure.
My deepest sympathies to all the family. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam uasal.

So sorry to hear about Peter's passing, I have thought of him often and wondered how he was. He was part of our pottery class a couple of years ago and we loved to see him coming with his little trolley with all his bit and bogs that he used for pottery including a wok and a hairdryer! I will treasure a dish that Peter made and gave to me. Rest in peace Peter
So so sad to hear of the passing of lovely Peter.
I knew him later on in his life from the pottery class we attended. He was the Daddy of our class and would always arrive so prepared with a toolbox of pottery tools and trinkets! He was so generous with his advice and encouragement to us beginners. He created beautiful pieces of Celtic towers and crosses. We miss him... R.I.P. Peter.

When Autumn would arrive, there would sure to be a box of apples left at our door from his wonderful garden.
We shall miss him, coming and going in his own quiet way.
Peter’s cats seemed to spend half their time with us; and now Bandit is sitting alone by our fireside.
May Peter Rest in Peace.

Dear Dorney family
I want to express my sincere condolences. I worked with Peter for many years in RTE, he was a brilliant cameraman, an exceptionally helpful colleague and great company. Together we delivered hours of Television with Mike Murphy, Daniel O’Donnell and many others. His humour was infectious. He was a wise pipe smoking oracle. We will all miss you Peter.

Ah, the lovely Peter Dorney. So sorry for your loss. I worked with Peter on the adventure that was Nothing To It. So many years ago. Such a great cameraman, such a fantastic man. I remember always waiting on Peter to tell us all that we had the shot. I remember him laughing and chatting. He was a great cook. A Renaissance man. Rest in peace.

So sad hearing of Peter’s passing, he was an inspiration to anyone interested in good production values and a terrific DOP.
I was fortunate to work with him in the early days of my career, I learned so much from him and enjoyed his charisma and sense of humour.

I am so sad to hear of Peter's death and truly sorry that I cannot be in Dublin on Friday to be part of the celebration of his life and work. Working with Peter was the best part of working in RTE. He was a brilliant cameraman, and a great teacher. He did not suffer fools gladly, but was ferocious in his support of work he thought worthwhile. His respect and affection might be hard-won and all the more valuable for that. He loved actors and always put them at their ease. They knew they had a champion looking after their best interests. Any programme he worked on was better for his contribution.
When he was happy with a 'take' he nodded and lit his pipe. No more needed to be said.

We offer our sincere condolences to Paul and the Dorney family on the passing of dear Peter.

I’m so sorry to read of Peter’s passing. Way back when- in RTE - we worked together on many filmic exploits. Peter had this zany Monty Pythonesque sense of humour that kept us all in good spirits, even when our filming exploits were not quite hitting the high spots. I well remember when I went into the cage in Fossetts Circus with six lions , Peter insisted on accompanying me into the cage and shooting over my shoulder. I really admired his courage, not to mention his confidence. I loved to see Peter on the roster when we did our Candid Camera stints. He derived such fun from them.
Peter was a once off. And he leaves a lot of happy memories.
My condolences to Anne and his family.

Peter was a great cameraman and a joy to work with as a sound recordist. He’d always work with you to solve problems, a total professional and a gentleman, it was a privilege to have worked with him. My deepest condolences to the family.
The deepest of sympathies to his family and all who grieve the loss of Peter.
The talent for seeing the potential for a great shot, and capturing it to perfection, was obvious to anyone who worked with Pete; and particularly to my late husband Ian who respected those abilities, & the diligence in making sure the best was delivered. This work is evident in so much of series’ like My Ireland, which would have missed much of their impact without Peter’s distinctive work.
For me, present on many of those long location shoots, his dry humour and his inclusiveness completed the character of this perfectionist.
Eerily it was Pete, in a post card signed by all the crew after one shoot, who told me that Ian and I would be getting married; the official proposal was a year off at that point.. but Pete knew!!
Latterly, when Ian was already in decline we bumped into Peter by chance in a car park, and were planning a better catch up which never happened; but they’ll certainly be reliving the good old days of long entertainment series’ created on the west coast, the North, and around the historic cities and remembering the shots captured by that great cameraman! Rest easy Pete. Jane x
