I had the pleasure to get to know Peter when i worked with him over several years. I found him to be a true gentleman and I am very sad to hear of his passing. Lovely guy, sorry we never got to play that game of golf we often talked about.

My sincerest and deepest condolences to Pamela, Shane and Andrea on Peter’s sudden passing. I worked with Peter for many years. He was a great colleague, mentor and friend. On Peter’s retirement I missed our coffees and discussions and now find it hard to comprehend the suddenness of his passing but I am sure he is playing a round of golf in Heaven and making moves on becoming captain of the club.

My deepest and heartfelt condolences to Pam, Shane, Andrea and all the Finnegan family. I have so many lovely memories of Peter from all our amazing Easter breaks in Dunmore East, but more recently at rugby matches when cheering on Clontarf against Terenure. We went to the same schools, played on the same teams, shared the same love of rugby and I will miss Peter's love of life and his endless enthusiasm. He was a gentleman off the field and a gentleman on the field of play (though more robust). The number of club presidents from Clontarf RFC and Royal Dublin at yesterday's funeral spoke of the respect and admiration of a truly great contributor to sport and other facets of Peter's life. Heartfelt condolences to Pamela and Peter's family.
I’m so sorry to hear of the sudden passing of Peter. He was a true gentleman and a great lover of all things sport. He will be very sorely missed by all in Clontarf rugby club and RD golf club. I was delighted when he unearthed a brilliant photo of my late wife Anne-Marie caddying for her dad Christy Snr which is now on display in RD. Rest in Peace Pete.
My deepest condolences to Pamela on the loss of yoor beloved husband. Also to Shane, Andrea and all the family. My thoughts and prayers are with you. May Peter rest in peace.

Pam and family , my deepest condolences to you all on the very sad and sudden passing of Peter. Having spoken briefly with him on Saturday 31st August in RD I was so shocked to learn of his passing. He was a true gentleman. May he rest in peace.
Dead Pam, both Audrey & I were shocked with the very sad news of Peter’s sudden passing. Peter was a really genuine human being. His enthusiasm for all of life was infectious, his encyclopaedic knowledge of all aspects of the history of RD always fascinating. I’ll miss casually bumping into him in RD & that after feeling of my day taking a turn for the good. May he rest in peace. Gerry Headon
As a contemporary of Peter's in Royal Dublin I was ever grateful he paved the way for us relatively "new" members to become more embedded in the Club we all love.
My sincere condolences to Pam & family on the sudden passing of Peter. Always a pleasure to meet especially in the golf club or the rugby club . A true gent always. May he rest in peace. I am unfortunately away & will miss his funeral.
My deepest condolences to Pam, Shane and Andrea. Pete, whenever I met Peter, he was always chirpy and in great spirits. Enthusiasm for life radiated from him. Always friendly and good fun on a golf course. He will be missed. x
Shane and Family, please accept my deepest sympathy for the loss your Father. May he rest in peace.

Pam, Shane and Andrea, sincere sympathy to you all on Peter’s sudden passing. We were shocked on hearing the tragic news. Peter was one of life’s real gentlemen, always a pleasure to meet and have a conversation. A terrible loss for all the family and those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Heartfelt sympathies to you all, Pamela, Shane and Andrea, on Peter’s far too untimely passing. Still in shock after playing golf and socialising with him in Royal Dublin less than 24 hours previously.
Back in 1997 my son Conor came home one day from his first days in Mount Temple and said there was a guy in his class speaking with a Canadian accent and saying he was born in Calgary!!
Shane and Conor became good friends and still are to this day, even though nowadays it is Conor who lives in Canada!
A couple of weeks later, a fella sidled up to me in Clontarf rugby club and said ‘I believe you lived in Calgary too’.
We became firm friends as a result of our shared Canadian experience and actually went back there for a holiday with Pamela and Mary Joe in 2013, and had a wonderful 3 week holiday in Calgary and Vancouver.
We have discussed many a plan to go back but sadly that is now never going to be.
I know I speak for all his many Calgary and Canadian friends who will treasure his memory, especially in the CCIAC (Calgary Irish rugby club) where Peter was a long standing past President.
Pamela, we have all lost a wonderful friend but he will never be forgotten.
I will miss him greatly.
May he rest in peace and may we all always be there to support you his family in the weeks and years ahead. 🙏🙏

My deepest condolences to you Pam, Shane and Andrea on the loss of Pete. I have nothing but great memories of him and always enjoyed chatting at length about history or sport with him. A great man with a great family. May he rest in peace
Thinking of you, Pam and sending you and all the family my heartfelt sympathies.
To all the Finnegan family, my deepest sympathy on your loss. I was introduced to Peter on joining Royal Dublin Golf Club by Michael Norton and recall his warmth and charm to me as a new joiner. We subsequently served on committee together, one of our interactions being when Peter procured for the club the 1936 Irish Open winner's medal, which was held in Royal Dublin, in an auction, keeping me appraised as Hon Treasurer of the bidding progress. He has left a lasting legacy to the club in his gift of many hours serving the club and especially in his work on the clubs history, of which the family can be immensely proud. I hope the many condolences support you and help console your great loss. May he rest in peace.
So sorry to hear such sad news .
