Peter FLANAGAN

Very sad to hear of Peter's passing. My deepest sympathies to his wife, Mary, and their family, and also to his sister, Mary Reilly, and brother-in-law, Dermot, and their family. He was a good friend for over 50 years and was: generous, committed, possessing a deep fount of wisdom and sound advice. Thanks Peter. In the mid 1960s, Peter was the principal engineer in the design and construction of Castlebar Airport (1966-2001) that was pioneered by enterprising and far-seeing Mayo leaders, and served as a forerunner for the successful Ireland West Airport Knock (1985-). My abiding and very happy memories of cousin Peter, his sister Mary and brother Frankie, his father Frank and mother Marie, go back to our childhood in Westport in the 1940s and latterly to a visit, together with Mary and my wife Barbara, not so long ago, to our grandparents' grave in
Aughagower and to their childhood homes in Cogaula and Doon.

It is with sadness we learn , on our return from holiday, of the passing of one of natures true gentlemen Peter, quiet spoken, always dignified, Peter had a serene presence which he used very effectively in his dealings with people both in his professional and his non professional capacity.

Peter possessed an uncanny ability to seek and identify solutions through consensus rather than confrontation.

Friendly, warm, articulate, and engaging in such a quiet and meaningful way, we are so sorry to have missed his funeral and we extend to his wife Mary and all his family and many friends our deepest sympathies.
