Peter Harding

It is still hard to take in that we will no longer see Peter In The Belt Shop. Over the years I enjoyed many the chat here with Peter about gardening, photography, Italy and many other subjects. The shop served as a great meeting place, particularly for men. It was a well to which we were attracted to for the company, banter and the laughter. It served a great social purpose. My sympathies to Peter's family and all his friends. It was such a pity that he did not live for many more years, he being so young at heart. I miss him and I will remember him with great affection.

My sincere condolences to all of the Harding family and to Peter's many friends. Like so many others, I will miss him.

Any time I returned to Cork I always made a point of calling to the shop for a chat and a laugh with Peter, so it was a great shock last month to be told by Simon that he had just had a stroke and an even bigger one to be told yesterday that he had passed. He was always so full of vitality . I was also informed that his brother Tom, my oldest friend had passed some time ago so thats two great characters gone .. may they rest in peace. Having just heard the lonesome news . I am startled and saddened to hear that Peter has left us. The Coal Quay will be a different place without him. Time in Peter’s company was always stimulating and valued. He was an erudite, kind spirited , Lion of a man. May his family find some comfort in the way he was regarded , by those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
