Peter Holland

Peter was an absolute Gentleman, multitalented, with a tremendous work ethic- a 'tower of support'- not just to me -but to so many staff, students, visitors, friends.
No matter the situation, he had a wise solution or nipped problems in the bud!

Justly proud of You- his Wonderful Family & all Your Achievements - Dear Ann, Carol, Gary, Brendan, Gerry and Conor- I Thank You All -for our shared times with Peter- his valued advice, stories and friendship.

Very sorry to the Holland family for your loss. Peter, also called “H”, was our school’s Hagrid in all the best ways. A giant to the first years. But there was something warm in his gravelly voice and soft demeanour which let us know he was on our side. He’d strike fear into any chancers up to no good on school grounds. A constant presence from our school days. Rest easy H!

Mr Holland, a man's man! A pillar of towering authority and sentinel to many biddable young boys under his watch in 1990’s HFDLS, whom I looked up to in complete awe. He wasn’t backward about coming forward in dispensing welcome unsolicited advice, regarding my cursory performances as a juvenile football referee, beneath the shadow of my Alma Mater on Balbriggan St.
I shall never forget the surprise, when I returned to the school building in 2004, as a blue collar professional to service the fire alarm system. Only to be received by The Big Fella himself with a larger set of keys on his hip than I possessed. He remembered my name and at that, I followed the jingle jangle of his keys around the corridors………..

I am thinking of all of Peter’s family and many friends and colleagues who are saddened at this time. I have fond memories of working with Peter when I started teaching in the HFDLS school and we all experienced his kindness, good humour and devotion to us all and to his work. He will be remembered by the whole school community. I cannot be there tomorrow for Peter’s funeral Mass so please accept my sincere condolences.

Sympathy to Ann and to Peter's lads Gerry, Brendan, Gary, Conor and to his daughter Carol. He was the Keys Man and a helpful caretaker character for decades in the nearby De La and Holy Faith place, the Community College where I taught happily for ages and ages.

Peter was a giant of a man both physically and in character I as a Customs officer was posted to Skerries in early 1970 As a complete rookie I hadn’t a clue what I was supposed to do There was no office so I had to sign on in the Garda station I was supposed to patrol the coastline looking for contraband on a push bike that didn’t work
Lucky for me Peter was based in Skerries at that time so he took me by the hand including giving me bed and board in his and Ann’s home From a very bad start I enjoyed my stay in Skerries due to the generosity of the Holland family
