Sincere condolences to all of Mr Long's family. He was my principal in Scoil Ide (2004-2012) and I always thought he was a fantastic principal and a lovely gentleman.

My sincere sympathy to Siobhán, Ruth, James and Cecelia on the recent passing of Peter. Peter gave me my first job, teaching 1st class in Scoil Íde. He had a very warm, caring way about him and this carried to staff and pupils alike. He loved Scoil Íde. I was very saddened to hear of his untimely passing. May he rest in peace.

I was shocked and sad to hear of Mr. Long's passing. He was my teacher for 5th and 6th class in the late 80s. He was my favourite teacher by far and I have many happy memories from that time. I can still remember facts about Christopher Columbus, Michael Collins and Napoleon, from way back then. My sincere condolences to all of Mr. Long's family at this very sad time. May he rest in peace now.

Very shocked and sad to learn of Peter's passing. As a trainee teacher in Mary I over 20 years ago I was fortunate to meet Peter and do my teaching practice in his school. While my time with him was very brief his kindness and wisdom left an indelible mark on me and I often think of his inspiring words to me in my teaching career. It was with sadness I heard of Peter's untimely passing RIP.
My deepest sympathy to Siobhán, Ruth, James and all his extended family.
I worked for a short while in Scoil Ide in September- October 1999. Peter was a very young vibrant Principal. I did not know for a while that I had his little boy in the class.
Though I had only met Peter once briefly since, I always remembered him because he was very kind and encouraging, he gave me a job in a time when teaching jobs were scarce as I am second level qualified.
I remember telling him that Tommy Barry (a previous Scoil Ide Principal) was our neighbour at home and one of my late Father's great friends All passed now RIP.
Peter was a lovely dignified gentleman. May the Angels lead Him to Paradise.

My sympathies to the Long family.

I was lucky enough to be a pupil of Mr Long’s - when I was in fifth and sixth class in 1990 & 1991. He was the best school teacher I ever had, and has been an influential figure in my life. During those years, he gave me great encouragement, instilled me with confidence and stimulated my curiosity in the world. He prepared me well for secondary school- and life. I recall classes being fun and interesting. And I really enjoyed the school plays we did: Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox & Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Lots of fond memories.
