So sad to hear of Peter's passing. Such an entertaining, good natured and kind person. The boredom of countless rainy days spent in the changing rooms of the cricket clubs of Dublin was generally lifted by Peter's flights of imagination and good humour. Nothing but fond memories of a really lovely bloke and great teammate.
Sincere condolences to all the Prendergast family from John and Colm Daly

To the Prendergast family,
Words can’t express the impact your two wonderful parents have had on our family during our time as their students. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have been taught by both of them. Their warmth, kindness, gentle care and genuine advice has left a lasting impressions on our lives, for which we are all eternally grateful.
Your Dad was joy, light and fun. He made the trickiest of teenage years manageable. Thank you for sharing him with us.
To Trish,
We share our sincere condolences and love as you navigate this profound loss.

I had the pleasure of being taught by both Mr P and Ms Bergin during my time at HSD. Both were always so patient, kind and supportive. Mr P managed to make class so enjoyable. He always looked out for you and could put a smile on your face no matter the day. He will be incredibly missed and fondly remembered. Ms Bergin, Joe, Orla, Conor and the whole family - I am so sorry for your loss and am thinking of you all.
The number of people who turned out today and those who have written kind words here are testament to the reach of Pete's goodness. Truly one of a kind and we are collectively impoverished by Pete's passing. My condolences to Trish and family.
We are so sorry to hear of the very sad passing of Pete. We have many happy memories of chatting with him at the school gate at Zion and of how helpful and supportive a teacher he was in The High School. He was an especially lovely person. We send our deepest sympathies to Trish, Conor, Joe and Orla. Love, Hannah, Clive, Sophie, Ralph and Clara
Mr P was a stalwart of my time in High School. A gentleman always with a warmth and kindness that knew no bounds. It was always a joy to walk through his door. My condolences to all his family and friends
So sad to hear of Mr P’s passing. He was my form teacher in First Year in HSD, and I’ve such good memories of fun and laughter in his classes. Ms Bergin too was my form teacher later on and I remember a few of us from the year snuck into their wedding ceremony, as they were both our favourites! Sincere condolences to Trish and the Prendergast family. May all your amazing memories of Pete bring some smiles through your tears and carry you through these tough times ahead. Much love to you all.

Mr. Prendagast was brilliant, he always had time for a bit of banter, but yet, everyone got serious when it was time for teaching. There was always jokes, but it was never disrespectful. Always messing, but never disruptive! He made you forget you were a student due to the level of respect he gave you, and that respect was always returned.
I had forgotten until I heard this news, but I have some great memories, not from the classroom, but in the corridors, of the football lads (Greener, Bridgy, Tom, Nick [to name a few]), just having absolute craic about football. Shouting and slagging back and forth from half way down the packed corridors. Still makes me smile now, 30 yrs later.
There were a few great teachers in the school back then, and Mr. P was right up there.
Rest In Peace Sir.

Heartfelt condolences to all Pete's family and friends on his terrible loss. I have very fond memories of playing 2nd XI cricket under Pete's leadership in Clontarf. He always played the game in the right way, encouraged youngsters and kept the focus on enjoyment. A great sense of humour and an absolute gent. He will be greatly missed around the boundaries of Clontarf and Leinster cricket but his legacy lives on through those who had the pleasure to know and learn from him. May he RIP.
Our sincere condolences to Trish , Conor, Joe and Orla.
Peter was a true gentleman, and I always enjoyed our chats in Claremont Road. He always had a smile and a kind word and was so proud of Conor, Joe and Orla’s cricket achievements,

I have very happy memories of meeting Peter when St Columba's College played football against the High School in the 1990s. He was a lovely man and I am very sad to hear of his passing.
Sorry to hear of the passing of Pete, he was a true gentleman on the field and always a pleasure to meet outside the boundary ropes. May you rest in peace.
It was a privilege to hear Canice speak so movingly about Pete today. I hope the huge turnout showed how loved Pete was. One of the cleverest, kindest and most talented people I’ve ever met, Pete was certainly the most entertaining! Sending love and sympathy to Trish, Conor, Joe, Orla and the whole family on their huge loss. Ni bheidh a leithead ann aris. x
My sincere condolences to Pete's family on his loss. I knew him as a young boy in Clontarf who was the youngest brother of Terry, my life-long friend. He was a lovely, bright, chatty boy. He was about a decade younger than us teens hanging out at the Prendergast house and was always up for a chat and never shy. He grew up, by all accounts, to be an equally nice and engaging man who was much loved by all who knew him.
Rest in peace Pete.

Mr P was a real highlight of secondary school, even though he never actually thought me. He was always a family face in the corridor and good for a chat about whatever sport event i had played in the previous week. it was a pleasure to know Mr P, and for that to be transferred to meeting him in Pembroke for a lap and a chat at whatever game we both happened to be at. A truly lovely man.

I am writing on behalf of the school community to offer my sincere condolences following the death of Peter. I should like to extend our deepest sympathies to Trish, Conor, Joseph, and Orla as well as to other members of the immediate and extended family.
We recall with pride and affection the contribution Peter made to the life of The High School during his long tenure as a member of staff. He taught Irish to generations of pupils as well as coaching rugby, cricket, and soccer (about which he was particularly passionate) between 1986 and 2021. His skills and abilities resulted in appointments to internal positions as Form Teacher, Special Duties Teacher, and Assistant Principal.
The High School has reason to be thankful that Peter chose to dedicate a significant proportion of his professional life to this institution where he is fondly remembered as an insightful and supportive colleague. We remain grateful for his kind and considerate example in engaging with the generations of staff, parents, and past pupils who mourn his loss to the school community.
It will undoubtedly be a very difficult and painful time for family and friends both now and in the immediate future. However, you may be assured that we will continue to keep all of you in our thoughts and prayers at The High School whilst wishing you every strength and comfort during the months and years ahead.

Trish, Conor, Joe and Orla, We are very sad to hear of the untimely death of your beloved husband and Dad, Peter. Remembering you all from Zion and later High School (Rob). Our sincere sympathy to you all. May he rest in peace
So sorry to hear of the untimely death of Peter. I had many lively and funny conversations with him when Joe played for Leinster CC with my son, Conor. When my daughter, Medb, worked for a time in SuperValu in Churchtown, Peter always made time to talk to her. Peter was always so chatty and friendly. It’s wonderful to read all the tributes paid to him by the cricket and football communities but it’s particularly heartwarming to see how well liked and respected Peter was by his former school pupils. Rest in Peace, Peter.
To Ms Bergin (Trish), Conor, Joe and Orla. Sincere condolences and thinking of you all at this time. So many memories of Mr. P, he will be dearly missed. Jennie Kirwan
Dear Trish, Conor. Orla and Joe I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. Pete was a true gentleman and yes so very funny and very kind. He really cared about what was important and cared about everyone. I'm so very sorry you have lost him. Thinking of you all.
It was both a pleasure and a privilege to have known Peter. The term gentleman and scholar is rarely employed these days, but it was so appropriate for Peter. He was the most gentle of people with a calm demeanour that you could only admire. It was always great to run into Peter and he would treat you to his lovely wit, which was always entertaining. Sincere condolences to the extended Prendergast family on your loss, a simply lovely person, whose passing makes everyone’s day somewhat the lesser. Ar Dreiser De go rains a n-anamacha.
Such sad news, Peter was a lovely man always with a positive word. Sincere condolences to all the family, thinking of you at this very sad time.
Joe and family, I was so sorry to hear about Mr. P’s passing. A legend would be an understatement for the HSD community. I think we all share fond memories of Aifric on a Friday and his quick one-liners which would bring laughter to a room learning the modh coinníollach. May he rest in peace
My deepest sympathy to the Prendergast family. I met Peter in my early teens in Clontarf Cricket Club and he was always a joy to be around. A great team mate and a better friend. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.
I’m thinking of Pete at this sad time when all his family are missing him Tricia Joe Conor and Orla and Terry Kathy and Canice. I know you all love him to bits and he loved you . As long as you say his name and remember his stories he will always be with you and that love will be in your hearts.
He was always fun and a joy to meet.

Comhbhrón ó chroí oraibh go léir, Trish, Joe, Conor and Orla, I was shocked to hear of your tragic loss. Peter's enthusiasm was infectious, I have fond memories of you all together down in Leicester Celtic supporting each other from the sidelines, and your family kick arounds on any free sections of the Astro pitch before training. May your treasured memories of the good times spent with Peter help to ease the pain of your sad loss. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam. Jimmy Nolan

So very sorry to hear about Peter’s passing. Our sincere condolences to Trish, Conor, Joe and Orla. Peter was a true gentleman and was so proud of all his family. No matter where I met him he always greeted be with a hug and was so interested to hear how our boys were! Even though they never had him as a teacher he was regarded as a true legend. He will be missed by all who knew him but especially his family. Keeping them all in our thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time
Sincere condolences to Pete’s family. I have great memories of Pete coaching the senior cricket team in HSD and then in later years playing against him. More recently it was always a great bonus to chat to him doing laps of Pembroke and Clontarf cricket clubs. Such a wonderful man, he’ll be sorely missed by us all. May he rest in peace.
My deepest heartfelt sympathy to you Trish, Conor, Joe and Orla at this awfully sad time of the passing of your beloved Peter. All four of my children Emily, Susan, James and Alison Kinlan ( whereas officially he taught only two) have the most wonderful and happy memories of Mr P's caring support towards them over all their years in High School. May Peter rest in peace.
A truly amazing teacher and person. He had this wider view on life and you could sense it from him, he knew the things that were important in life and he made sure his students were happy above all else. If he felt things were getting a bit too serious he’d just stick on an episode of Aifric. Such a calm, understanding, friendly, and witty presence that was felt throughout the school, it’s not easy to be known as a legend by 800+ teenagers.
My sincerest condolences to his family.

It is with great sadness that we have learnt of the passing of Peter. He will be greatly missed on the many cricket boundaries that he frequented. He was a true gentlemen, a wonderful family man and a true friend to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The Butler family, Brendan, Evelyn, Cathal and Emma offer their sympathy to Peter’s wife and children. Cathal and Emma were taught by Peter while Cathal and Brendan met Peter many times at UCD games at Belfield Park and UCD Bowl. May he Rest in Peace.
Sincere condolences to Trish, Conor, Joe and Orla. Pete was far and away one of my most favourite cricketing parents to cross paths with on the boundary rope. His personality oozed with good-humour, genuine care and kindness, and I can only imagine the loss to those who were close to him.
