Peter Scully

I attended Mr Scully's art class each week in the prefabs in the old days. He was a great teacher and very patient. He inspired me and have very fond memories of Mr Scuuly. A gentleman. RIP Sir

I will miss Peter. He was a kind and Godly man, true to his Saviour Jesus Christ and his neighbour. May he rest in peace until the Resurrection.

I attended Peter’s art classes in the prefabs in Stanhope Street when I was younger, Peter always gave his time running the art classes during the Summer Project, my own children attended his art classes and I regularly met him around the church and parish where he always made time to stop and have a chat. A gentleman who had time for everyone.

I was lucky enough to know Mr Scully from a very early age when I began to attend the original art classes held in the wooden prefab in the grounds of Stanhope Street School. Those Thursday night classes were amazing, we learnt a huge amount and they were also absolutely consistent – I can never remember a cancellation.
Looking back I can see that as well as teaching art Mr Scully was also teaching us about community, about making a contribution, about sharing our time and skills to improve our world.
He and May modelled all this. Via their parish involvement over decades they had an impact on the lives of hundreds of people. Their kindness, their generosity with their time and their sheer authenticity and decency shone though. You always felt better for meeting them.
I am so sorry for your loss but so grateful for having known Mr and Mrs Scully & will always remember them.

Peter was the best of neighbours, always time for smile and a lovely chat. He had the gift of making your day better just by meeting him on the road. His kind and gentle presence will be so missed on Arklow Street. Condolences to all of Peter's family.

I lived two doors down from Peter and May in the 80s. If I bumped into Peter we would stop and talk. I would be struck by his earnestness and considered thoughts delivered in a lovely low Dublin accent. That and May’s friendliness. I will always treasure those moments. My sympathies to Andrew and Gerard. You had great parents.

Very sorry to hear of the passing of Mr Scully. He was a lovely man, who encouraged us all who took part in his art classes and summer project lessons. Will always have fond memories of those times growing up.

Our sincere condolences to the Scully family. Peter was such a kind, creative and selfless man. From the short time we moved to Stoneybatter, we exchanged artwork, gaeilge, stories and lots of laughter. We would always stop to have the chats outside which we will always cherish. He will be remembered so fondly.

Both men attended early art classes in the CIE where Peter was a very talented painter and so generous with his time and knowledge. May and Peter were also lovely godparents to Jeannette Maher.
