Out of a small group of people I loved and cared for, Peadar was one of my best friends. Although these weeks have passed since I was at his graveside, I still feel sick to my core that he is gone. We were friends for 30 years, with long periods of quietness, and then suddenly it was like no time had passed. He was the most thoughtful man, a positive consistent presence. I have so many memories of him around my house - photos of him looking through a camera lens, key-rings from when he won photographer of the year, so many postcards, a coffee machine, and even my passport photo was doctored by him so I look younger, and many other pieces of him I now treasure with my life. Peadar was such a great friend to me, accepting of my oddity, he always had the ability to connect and was willing to ask the right questions or share a funny story that would let me know he understood and cared for me. He had such a gift with everyone who called him their friend. I banked on us growing old and sharing life, I feel like I have been robbed. I am truly sorry I was not there for you my friend to understand your hurt and pain. I love you forever and you will always be from that special time in our lives, when we had carefree fun, learning how to be young men around UCD and Temple Bar before the tapestry of life's meaning and madness began to unfold. Forever My Amigo. Kevin x

Peter was a great and beautiful soul. I hope he realised how many lives he touched and how much he was loved. We are all better for having known and loved him. My heart aches for Carmel, Tom, Livia and little Noel. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

Carmel and the entire Shaughnessy family we are so sorry for your loss. Peter was a mainstay in our estate, another one of the many Naas cbs lads in Hollywood park making the daily trek back n forth to school or playing out on the road. Hopefully the many fond memories you have will sustain you through this difficult time.

I met Peter 26 years ago when we became flatmates. We have been friends ever since. So many memories. He insisted on doing the photos at my own wedding and my house is full of little presents he would bring for no reason at all. My son is his biggest fan. After all, Peter showed him how to start a fire. His love for Livia and Noel was huge. He was such a loving dedicated father. So proud of Noelie. His kindness and his quirkiness made him a special friend. Always there for you. I am heartbroken. No words. Our thoughts are with his mum, brother, Livia and Noel. Véronique, Declan and Zachary. Dublin
Sincere Condolences to Carmel, Livia ,Son Noel ,Brother Tom ,and the extended Shaughnessy Families on the passing of Peter.

I KNEW, Peter well from Hollywood Park, and I know his mother Carmel from Her passing me most days. Sad condolecces to the O'Shauchnessy Family at this time, and also to Tom, his brother who I know well.
Now that we have said goodbye to Peter, the scale of the loss hurts like hell. Like so many others here, it's hard to fathom that we'll get no more quirky parcels arriving in the post, or phone calls out of the blue, or impeccably timed unannounced visits. Or, in one of his more memorable moves, he showed up at my door with an entire christmas tree, liberated with his own hands from the Wicklow mountains! When I last met him for a few drinks, we talked for hours as usual, 26 years of knowing each other meant there was never a shortage of material. One of the lessons of what has happened is that you should never pass up a chance to meet your friends. Peter never procrastinated about anything, there was nothing flaky about him, he was loyal, caring, creative, kind, honest, original and non-judgemental. I could rely on him for anything, and tell him anything. I will miss you terribly pal, will never forget you. It was an honour to help carry you on your final journey, you carried me enough times. Rest in Peace. My heartfelt thoughts, wishes and support to Carmel, Tom, Livia and Noel.
Our Sincere Sympathy to Carmel,Livia, son Noel,Tom and the extended Shaughnessy Family on the sad passing of Peter.May His Kind and Gentle Soul Rest in everlasting Peace.
My deepest condolences to Peadar’s family and friends. Peadar and I met the first few weeks of college and we fast became very close friends. When I look back on all the wonderful memories from those days, Peadar is at the heart of all of them: Friday afternoons in the UCD bar; skipping lectures for a pint in the Norseman and an afternoon film at the IFC; and even a brief spell as radio DJ’s together. Peadar was one of the most exceptional people I have ever met. There was no one like him. He was a passionate, intelligent, talented, kind soul, who would do anything for his friends. Peadar had a profound effect on everyone who was fortunate enough to know him. We love you Peadar. We are going to miss you.
Peadar was a true original. Totally unique. Absolutely full to the brim of life energy. A creative force unlike any other.
In the late 90’s, in his UCD days, Peadar lived in my family home with myself and my brother Liam for a year. He was like a big brother to me in those days, always encouraging, always inspiring. He was an incredibly intelligent, complex, talented, generous, lovable man, and I treasure all of the memories from those days. His loss at such a young age is truly heart-breaking.
Sincerest and heartfelt condolences from all of the Kavanagh family to Carmel, Tom, the extended Shaughnessy family, Livia, Noel, and to everyone who loved Peadar.
Rest in peace, my friend. xx

“It’s easy to drive 1852 kilometers, when there are good friends at the end of the road.”
This was Peter’s entry in our guest book when he, Noel, and Livia visited us in Berlin in May 2015. This one sentence says a lot about Peter as a person and as a friend.
His observations were spot on, always with a pinch of humor, and he took so much interest and sympathy in his friends. He expanded so much effort on nurturing and keeping his friendships, more than any other person I know. All this while he would never have thought about it that way – for him it seemed to be all pleasure. I have more letters and postcards from him than from anyone else, and similarly many memories of crazy moments we lived through together.
This year we would have known each other for 25 years and I had planned to come back to Dublin to celebrate this with him and other companions of those days in the summer.
Now we are all rattled by his passing away. My thoughts are with Noel, Livia, Tom and the whole Shaughnessy family. May you get the strength to live through this terrible loss.

I met Peter briefly during my Dublin years, but I have some unique memory on creating something fun and intelligent together with Matteo. I was fascinated by his personality and his angle on creativity. Thanks for the book you gave me, Peter. As hard as it can be for a young family to be broken, I hope his memory will motivate you Livia to keep going and start a new chapter of your life. Condolences to the Peters family.

If I didn't know Peadar, reading all these comments I would be thinking, what a cool guy! These comments are gold, each one touching on the inimitable force of nature that was Peadar Shock, Peter Shaughnessy.
.
Introduced to me as Peadar (my friend Tara had met him in the Gaeltacht), it was several years before he gruffly informed me his name was actually Peter and to stop calling him Peadar.🤣 But it was impossible to think of him as anything but Peadar. We eventually came to a happy compromise - Pedro, when he was going through his learning Spanish phase.
Not only did he learn Spanish, but also how to make the world's best Spanish omelette, better, he boasted, than most Spanish people. It was his special treat that he made for me time and time again. So many wonderful memories involving good food, a few drinks, some tunes (some of his self-penned classics!), the best of chats and a fair few sea swims.
I received all kinds of things in the post from him, from butcher's knives to Charles Bukowski poems. And countless random acts of kindness over our 28 year friendship.
My heart goes out to you Livia and Noelie, he loved you so much with his huge heart. Carmel and Tom, he spoke of you often - my heartfelt condolences.
Peadar, mo chara. Rule breaker. Individual thinker. Irreplaceable.
So incredibly saddened at your loss but so incredibly glad you were here at all. ❤️
