To Patrick’s family,
My heart is heavy for you. I’ve only known Patrick for around 15 years and he kept his relationship with me extremely professional, unless I was on my own with him and we would chat about life and it always felt honest and real, I knew if I wanted to get him to crack open all I would have to do was ask him about Isabel or his time in Finland. I think it goes without saying he was incredibly proud and adoring of his family, but I grew up witnessing Patrick watch Isabel grow from child to teenager; and I’ve never met a prouder Dad.
Patrick represented strength, honesty and resilience to me and I’m so sad to have his presence gone from my life in Ireland which he has supported my family so much in creating and maintaining. He dropped me to the airport on my last trip home in August, and I’m glad I got a hug goodbye but so sad it was the last one.
They do say it’s always the great ones that go way too soon.
