I was very sad to hear of Phelim’s passing. He was a lovely man. My sincere condolences to Judy. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

Phelim you were our Irish Gatsby figure in Dublin in the late 70s. A martyr to the parties, the music gigs, the fun, just like us all but you were something more too. You had a generosity of spirit and even though you loved people’s humour and to be at the centre of a spontaneous gathering, still, you always had a slight quality of ’apartness’ (again, that Gatsby thing), that made you a bit of enigma. You came up with the name of ‘Scullion’ for a legendary version of Sonny Condell’s band and your famous record collection gave endless joy to me and all your friends. Let the grace you always had as a man inspire your loved ones.

I first met Phelim in April this year when he attended his first meeting of the Century Group which meets monthly. During his short time with us, Phelim made a significant contribution in providing exceptional insights. We will greatly miss his wisdom and lovely personality. May he rest in peace. Deepest condolences to Judy Hannah and sam on the sudden passing of phelim one of the earliest memories i have of phelim was how he would always light up a room with his smile and his laughter I found phelim to be very inspiring when it came to his interest and love of music when i was younger i used to wake up on Christmas morning what kind of music he would have given me as a Christmas present i got into such bands like U2 and Oasis all thanks to phelims love of music in recent years i found out that phelim also had a love of education this was evident because in recent years when i successfully completed a diploma in UCC he would always be one of the first that would respond to my mum's WhatsApp messages she would put up to celebrate my educational achievement i know that he will be up there with nanna and gaga helping me to the finish line of me being awarded my degree in social science will always remember the good times of phelim and will always play music in his memory

I got to know Phelim when he joined the Residents Association in Avoca. He was always so supportive and helpful along with a great sense of humour. My sincere condolences to Judy and all his family. I worked closely with Phelim for many years and always enjoyed his company and inspiration - I can still hear his mischievous laugh. Knew Phelim years ago in Dublin. When we went to visit he was always welcoming and generous and had the best record collection. We remember him with great fondness and out thoughts are are with his family

We are so sorry to hear of Phelim’s very sudden and unexpected death. Our condolences to Judy and the children, Phelim’s sisters Claire, Trish and Marie and extended family.

I have such very happy memories of childhood friendship with the OLeary family. It was wonderful to spend time with Phelim at Ian and Vale’s wedding in Italy, a place he loved to visit.

He was so proud of his family and it was wonderful that he so recently had special time with them and his grandson Sean. He will continue to live through the love he showed them and the memories they shared.
