So sorry Stephanie, Pauline, Bernadette & David for your very sad loss. Phil was one of my mother’s closest friends. I spent most of my childhood in Coughlan's. It seemed like the whole Mountrath Road neighborhood congregated in Coughlan’s garden. It was an era of ‘children should be seen not heard’ but that old adage didn’t apply as far as Phil was concerned. We were encouraged to be confident & express ourselves. I remember with great fondness the plays we would perform in the garage under Phil’s guidance…. I like to think she is united now with her beloved John.
